OOooooh, hot with cream. Trouble is I've so many already, it's become less of a treat when christmas actually arrives. But I can't help it.

I don't make my own. I'm not a bad cook in general but my pastry is really naff. I buy them, but usually the luxury ones. My mum was a fantastic pastry cook though. Pity I didn't inherit her skill.

I totally agree - can't stand dried fruit. I used to make them for my Dad, and for "him indoors", but since my Dad dies "him indoors" usually gets bought ones.

Christmas would not be christmas without mince pies and custard.

Love them. Home made are best. Short butter pastry or puff to eat the same day.:)

What gets me is why call them mince pies ! They are fruit pies.
Mince pies go with bovril at footy.

I think hundreds of years ago they used to be made with fruit in with the meat! Not a nice thought with the Bovril.
I love mince pies, especially Aldi's non-luxury ones.
