I can never, ever understand employers who state how much time off sick an employee has.
I mean it's not as if anybody wants to be ill is it, and what if somebody is really very ill? Why
should they get a warning or whatever over it. I wonder if the people giving the warnings
appreciate the same being said to them if they're ill. Companies that don't appear to notice
they have actual people working for them, not robots!
I have never worked for any business like that and never will.

I think, in fairness, some companies may be suspicious because some people do throw sickies at the drop of a hat.
Most sensible employers know if someone is genuinely ill, then they really are genuinely ill. Many youngsters throw sickies just because of a hangover. (My daughter did it once - well, she got such a telling-off from me she's never done it again)!
As a small business ourselves, we know that any unexpected time off (we only have one employee) would cause real problems Luckily he is a lovely bloke, completely reliable. He has had some problems with his wife's illness and a recent bereavement, and because he is so reliable, we've just told him to take as much time as he needs, because we know it's genuine.
It's all a matter of common sense, really. Larger companies should be able to speak to the department managers to ascertain validity. And then behave accordingly.
