Yesterday I purchased my son a new duvet for his bed - he now has a 13 tog on the bed instead of his cheap value range one.
I was going to give the old duvet to my friend for him to use as a dog's bed but then a thought occurred to me.
I put the old thin duvet on my double bed under the fitted bed sheet. I have to admit that having this old duvet under me last night really made my bed soooooooooo much warmer. A duvet above and below me was really comfortable.
My top tip therefore is if you have an old summer duvet that you are not using then put it under you in bed. As my are often made out of man made materials it really makes the bed warmer rather than just lying on the mattress.
I also use a wheat bag that is heated in the microwave...once in bed it is far safer than a hot water bottle as there is no chance of being burnt by scalding water.
Top tip for the day.

I have done this on all my beds every winter, it also acts as a matress protecter as well.

My bed is a single and I have a double blanket folded in half lengthways on the mattress then a fitted sheet. I then have a flat sheet and my winter duvet. If needs be, I put at least one crocheted blanket on top of the bed as well. We had a new boiler put in in the summer and the difference is amazing. So far, I've only needed a blanket on a couple of times.

Done that for years when going on the boat or staying in a caravan. Not needed at home 'cos i have a man, a to cuddle and he is a bit like a full length hot water bottle..

I have a matress topper and stopped using it as I kept waking up far too hot.
I never heat my bedroom the rads are set to frost guard, but do have an electric blanket - set to minium and switched off before I get into bed, the window is almost always open too, unless it's blowing a hooley like it was last night, and then I only close it because of the noise.
I still haven't put my two quilts together - still on the 9.5 tog. I really don't like man made duvets, they always seem too heavy and lumpy and don't seem to flow round you as well as one with natural filling - but that's just me.

I had to go and buy a new quilt the other day as it was too warm with my winter one on, usually end up kicking it off any way, always sleep with the window open helps me to sleep. It was 14 degrees here this morning when I got up at 7am, not natural.

There should be a picture of a snowflake or something like that, between off and 1. it only comes on if it get really cold in the room.

Yep that's it. I hate warm bedrooms.

MIne is set on that in all the bedrooms, son has asthma so can't stand the heat. The heat rises from downstairs, and as we are really well insulated we don't need the radiators upstairs.

Mine is solid granite, so can't be properly insulated, but it is cool in summer.
My next house is going to be a new build - properly insulated .
