I have got a bidder on one of my items who has 62 feedback (as she is a buyer it is 100%) however she has made 16 retractions within the last year. My quandary is....do I let the auction run or cancel her bid? I know if she doesnt pay I will get a strike on her account but I hate retractors and 16 in a year seems an awful lot. If she does retract then I will report her anyway. The item is only £1.70 incl P&P so my gut instinct is to let the auction run. Just putting this query out for general consideration.

There is no particular reason that a person who retract bids is a non payer and the number of retractions should really be compared to the number of items the buyers has bid on, feedback only shows how many they have won.
Disregarding Ebay rules any bid is only an offer which can be withdrawn, the seller however does not have to accept any bid if they don't want to, there is no contract until the auction ends with a winning bidder.
Retracting bids can mess up a seller's auction and perhaps it could be an idea to cancel the buyer's bid and block them, if for no other reason, to show that retracting bids is not good buyer behaviour.

I would let it run but set your buyer settings to exclude people with lots of strikes against them in future.

has she retracted any tthis month?
can you see what reason she gave
i had someone retract that had 60+ in a year so her 16 doesnt seem as bad
but i too hate those that do it without good reason, but would rather have them than NPB's
i have had one this week, from a regular but he did explain before doing it
if it had been a non regular then i'd BBL them immediately
life isnt worth the hassle some people give before they even buy something

Guess what................I got back today and yes............she has retracted her bid. She had 16 bid retractions two days ago....today it stands at 24 - so 8 retractions today. I have notified Ebay. Thankfully there is another bidder on the item so it will sell. Annoyed I am but I suppose it is better than to have her win and not pay. Hitting head against a brick wall!!!!

People can be very annoying can't they if you don't want it don't ****** bid on it. (sorry was just trying to lighten the moment above)

LOL Ed.............got a big bruise on my head now!!!!
I very nearly cancelled her bid as I thought she would do this. She was on my BBL from the word go anyway.
I think she looks at bidding and retracting in the same light as having an item on her watch list - bid and cancel, bid and cancel....

I post below the reply I have had from Ebay about this serial bid retractor which just goes to show that reporting them DOES and WILL have an effect on their buyer power. What makes it even more laughable is she is a SELLER as well. Well, if we all report her she wont be buying or selling anything. Do I feel guilty......NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Thank you for contacting us about your bidder xxxxxxxxxx for retracting their bids. Let me look into this as we’re equally concerned about violations on the site to keep ebay a safe place to buy and sell.
I have investigated your report and I’ve taken the appropriate action against their account as this buyer has breached our Invalid Bid Retraction policy. Let me guarantee that the action I took will have a negative effect on this member's account which may lead to restriction or suspension.
