I have written a letter of complaint - little help needed

I have had to write a letter of complaint to the HMRC (wont go into details). This letter was sent some two weeks ago now. It is my understanding that for any letter of complaint an acknowledgement should be made within 7 days with a date given as to when a full response would be made following further investigations. I have tried to google this but just dont seem to be able to find the answer that I need. Does anybody else know whether I should have had an acknowledgement within 7 days with a time table of when a full reply should be received by. I am aware that for any grievance procedures set time scale have to be given.

Can anybody confirm the above or let me know whether I have got the time scales wrong.

Thanks in advance

This is HMRC?

Hmm, a few years back I filled a little form in on their website, they acknowledged by return and promised a reply within 14 days.  As I said it was a few years back.

Of course if you don't respond o their queries within their deadlines ..........................................................

They'll be busy today threatening all those rich people who earn too much for not filling in the right form by midnight the other day.  As though they don't(or at least should) know who they are!

They used to be good and efficient even though nobody exactly loves tax collectors..

Finance companies do have set timescales for responses to complaints, however this does not appear to apply to HMRC.  I've checked their website and there is no mention of timescale or even that they have to acknowledge your complaint.

Self assessment has nothing to do with being rich! I don't think they tell people off in October anymore as you have until January to do it online.

Not self assessment but the people who will be over the Child benefit level had to register for self assessment sometime last weekend so they can tax it back. Presumably one could be classed as"rich" if one no longer is entitled to child benefit but think "rich" is a movable feast depending on Govt, which tax and how big your mortgage is...  My Mum used to say that before the war only the "better off" paid income tax and not the average working man.

Don't think that stands today as tax starts at about £10,000.

Whenever I send any letter or form to the HMRC, I send it Special Delivery post.

Then they cannot claim they never received it...
