I have asked the schools about the costs......... none of them have ever gave me a decent answer
anyhoo
I only have two in school now (older one, his last year before uni)
So I got our girl 11, going into the big school
But the three schools in the area have now decided to amalgmate
But a slightly different uniform for each of the three schools,
no joke (can upload the form)
PE: Top: £24,00
Shorts: £9.00
Socks: im okay with £3.00
School Uniform......... have not got the price for but at least £150 for each of them!
What the hell is wrong with getting a standard.......top and shorts for a PE kit of ebay or one of the big stores, generic trousers........jersey...shirts......... Tie that is another thing...no bother paying for a tie.
Rant over

The comp my kids went to was quite sensible, there were uniform items e.g. pinstripe skirts or plain black/blue, blue/white shirts (depending on school year) so most items could be bought in the main shops. Just jumpers and some sports wear with school logos. That got cheaper when I heard about the badges especially when my daughter was in 6th form and wouldn't be seen dead in a 'school' shaped jumper!
I remember when I was in school the shirts could only be bought in Jessops (John Lewis) and we had to wear blazers. I know some schools are still like that. Some families get uniform vouchers but I don;t suppose they are enough for everything.

I appreciate your rant as well Kate. The cost of school uniforms is ridiculous. When I went up to secondary school, the only place my parents could get the school uniform from was the most expensive shop in town - it has recently closed by the way. At the time I moved up to secondary, we only had one wage coming in and that was my dads. They don't consider this when they set the cost of the uniforms.

When our girls went through school we formed a 'parents club' so that once a child had outgrown a piece of school uniform we could buy it from the other child's parents at a discounted price.
That way we slashed our clothing bill by over 60% and the other parents got some money back off of their initial outlay.
We found that clothes tended to last around 3 children so it was very viable.

Onions goes to school in September and we have been impressed with how reasonable her school stuff is.Even the badged studd isn't to expensive, and they dont expect her to have everthing branded so we can use Aldi/Asda etc for a lot of it. Shows it can be done if the school realises that parent's aren't made of money.
Onions at school.... doesn't seem believable!

There is always a lot of spending at school. Especially if the student is not very successful and does not particularly like to do homework on his/her own, then the spending will be even more due to the fact that the student will constantly use professional services, that help students with homework.
