This is what google says. 😄
An-dray Ree-euh.
The "eu" at the end of Rieu is pronounced the same as the "eu" at the end of other well-known french words like "milieu", "adieu", "peu", "feu", "cheveu".

Hi chickengrandma, Many thanks for explaining this, but was not sure of the euh. I think the only French word I recognise is Adieu. Therefore would it sound like Reeyou?
Thanks,
amethyst
(I didn't even realise the name was French, as I thought this gentleman of music was Hungarian) 😐

I didn't find it that clear to be honest because I wouldn't pronounce all the examples the same way. I would say adieu and peu would be most similar to a cat's 'purr' (but with a bit of a pout) whereas cheveu I thought was pronounced to rhyme with 'no' I'm afraid you'll have to hope a French person is passing by.:^O

The name is pronounced as reeyou. Also, the gentleman in question is actually Dutch as are the majority of his orchestra. He does have other nationalities in his orchestra such as a couple of Italians, a Frenchman and a German.

Thanks again chickengrandma, but at least you recognised those other French words - I only thought I knew one! 😞
Hello books and bits, Many thanks for coming to the rescue, and also explaining that he is actually Dutch.
Much appreciated.

You're welcome. I think that Andre Rieu is brilliant. Amethyst, have you tried his website at www.andrerieu.com? If you have Sky Arts 2, they very often show his concerts on there. Also, he's doing a concert in his home town of Maastricht next Saturday which is being beamed to cinemas worldwide including this country. It might tell you on his website, it might tell you on there.

CG, he's a Dutch violinist who has his own orchestra called the Johann Strauss Orchestra. He's on the mad side and so are the orchestra. The music they play is classic but it's never too heavy. None of his concerts are serious and he plays to packed audiences all over the world.
