I used to make my daughter and I macaroni cheese on a regular basis using about 50% macaroni/cheese by weight. Once done I'd put it in the oven for about fifteen minutes to brown off. Walking round the supermarket I decided to buy a tin of macaroni cheese and try it out. I'd tasted better and read the contents - greatest first: macaroni - obviously followed by the other ingredients. I finally got to Cheddar cheese 3% !
So generous! I don't think it affected my weight a great deal. That's bordering on the trades discription act!

Mmm.. I'll try that! That will really thicken it up. I've got another tin. I'm no Cordon Bleu but I do love home cooking, because you know exactly what goes into it. My speciality is lamb's neck stew with all the trimmings with mountains of pearl barley, or roast duck swimming in oil where you spend the next three days fighting for your breath! I just love the skin and all that lovely jelly fresh out of the fridge the next day. I once worked alongside my late father at Channel Airways, Southend Airport where once a year every employee was given a fresh turkey, so that rule stood regardless. We went home with 40 lbs. of fresh turkey between three adults and a dog! No wonder I'm a type II diabetic!

I've only had macaroni cheese once or twice and I'm not keen on it. Looking in LIDl today I noted that their own brand 'Newgate' has 12% cheese. With anything like the 3% stuff I'd just enrich it with extra cheese before cooking. Of course it defeats the object of a 'ready meal' a bit but still worth it to get it more to your liking. Similar with pizzas, I get basic cheese & tomato ones from Heron, 2 X 350g for £1-00, and top with salmon, tuna, sardines, cockles, mussels or whatever I hve to make a seafood one, or with bacon or corned beef for a meaty one. Corned beef pizza?????? Yep, brilliant!!!! Try it. I've just took a 400g pack (82% lamb) of Morrison's lamb shank with mint gravy from the fridge to cook later. I'll have a little of it hot tonight and chill the rest for sandwiches tomorrow. LOVELY. It should have been £4 but only cost me £2-00 from the special shop I go to. I've had it a couple of weeks now, with another, and the use by is 20/02/2016 so time to use. Duck? I had a two leg duck la'orange 'plain pack', 485g for £2-50, last week. I roasted it just right, it was beautiful

When I home make the stuff, I reckon I am using about 10% to 15% cheese by weight, which equates to about twice that by volume.
