The problem is I have a very large cherry tree that round the trunk has four well established gooseberry bushes .

Now at the moment they are laden with fruit but they won't be for much longer if I can't find a way to protect them from the bluetits who seem to have taken a liking to them.

I can't really net them due to the position around the tree so is ther anything else any of you can recommend bearing in mind we do want to use the fruit when its ripe.

The problem with trying to net them is the squirrels use the cherry tree as part of their access route to the garden and either get tangled in it of pull them off........although funnily they never eat the gooseberries 😮

Are you sure the bluetits are after the gooseberries and not, for example, gooseberry sawfly which can do serious damage?

I had sawfly last year & they ate all the leaves but I still got goosgogs.:-) I sprayed early this year & have leaves & fruit.

OK I'm back, can't see any signs of larvae or caterpillers and the leaves look intact and healthy ?:|

Goodness me...it's years since I had a furry grape,Dad used to grow them as well as rhubarb and blackberries.....

And Mum was responsible for turning them into pies,crumbles and stewed fruit and custard :-x

Dad used to use the tape from the inside of cassette tapes and later video tapes over his seedlings to keep the birds off..

It shimmered and moved in the slightest breeze....it might work on ya goosegogs 😄

One of my goosegog bushes is somehow being squashed. I have 2 bushes and the other one is fine.

Every day I go out to look and another section of the bush is flattened with the branches broken off. It looks just like someone has sat on it although with all those spikes...............

Any one got any ideas.

Maybe a fox? I know our raspberry canes get broken really easy, the flippin fox wee's in the same bushes every day, our poor little xmas tree is sufferin cos of himX-(....think I might get one of those plastic frogs that croaks when the sensor is broken!
