Hello Ian, I received a beautiful little box (a friendship kit) along the lines you speak of, from a very good friend and it contains :
A candle - to light up your life
A safety pin - for the unexpected
A cotton wool ball - to cushion the road ahead
A button - to remind us sometimes to button our lip
A rubber band - a reminder to stay flexible
An eraser - to rub out some of the mistakes
A plaster - to heal wounded feelings
A paper clip - to help keep things together
Some marbles - to replace any that may get lost
A toothpick - to pick out the best qualities in yourself and others
A balloon - to celebrate life
A penny - so you will never be broke
A puzzle piece - to remind you your friends are not whole without you
A jewel - a reminder of how valuable you are to me
Maybe it will give you a few ideas, but as the girls say, your own ideas are good too. I've only opened it the once 'cos it took me forever to get the ribbon back on. Hope this helps, Rainy x.
