Halloween Pumpkin

Has anyone made a pumpkin lantern?

I got two.  I have cut off the tops, and scooped out the seeds and pith.

How much flesh should I scrape out and how thick should I leave the shell before carving.

I have looked on google, but all instruction sites say is "Scoop out the centre"

Any hints would be appreciated.

Re: Halloween Pumpkin

we never scoop much of the inside out  only when you carve the eyes etc out you may need to scoop some of the inside out  to show of the holes if that makes sence.do not cut the skin of carve into it. if that makes sence .sorry if it sounds muddled my brain is tired  but i love carving pumpkins

Re: Halloween Pumpkin

I once carved out the front of the pumkin to look like a cat arching his back, it looked real good when I lit it. If I can find a pic I'll post it.

I used to take quite a bit of the flesh out to make a better light but maybe I just didn't really need to do that.

I can't carve them now as my hands hurt too much.

did you do all those cookie? they're great!!

Re: Halloween Pumpkin

I've never really been into Halloween but the pumpkin pictures on here are great.  Our nextdoor neighbours have two pumpkins in their porch.  I don't know whether or not they are lit up or not.

Re: Halloween Pumpkin

I see what you mean from the picture.

Just carve the outer shell, leaving the fleshy bit underneath.

I think I have done it right, as I have only taken out the seeds and the pithy stringy bits

I have to put a battery light inside, as they are being used in a public place

They won`t allow candles as they are likely to set the smoke alarms off.

Re: Halloween Pumpkin

I have finished them both, but dont have a camera.

I will get my friend to take some pics when he comes later

This is the first time I have ever done this, so they are probably not as good as yours cookie.

Re: Halloween Pumpkin

I used to do them for the boys and they were always out for one reason or another! Nevertheless I'd be there dutifully carving! They're 23 & 18 now so I don't think they'd appreciate it now. I did see one on Facebook that made me laugh but I can't post a picture here! It is in a porch and it reads 'go forth and multiply' but in less words. Maybe an idea if you don't want trick or treaters!
