Fireworks time again

Thank you to the idiots who let fireworks off very close to my house last night for about 3 hours! Both my dogs were terrified, one wee'd on the carpet she was so scared and the other is epileptic! I suppose we will be the same as last year and have them going off for about 8 nights in a row. Turning the TV louder doesnt help as the fireworks are so noisy, goodness knows what they sound like to a dogs sensitive ears.

Fireworks time again

Sadly, as with so much nowadays, it is the selfish members of society who spoil it for everybody.

No longer can some just limit their fireworks to such type as are suitable to be let off in a neighbourhood

garden and on bonifire night or perhaps just the closest weekend to bonfire night too.  No, they have

to let them off at all times - huge great bangs that shake the neighbourhood and, as others have said,

heaven knows what they make the wildlife feel like.

Because of these selfish people I would like to see them limited to just bonfire night and the closest

weekend to it, and it be enforced as far as possible.  Better still, ban domestic use and just have

public displays, operated by sensible people.

The selfish in our world unfortunately bear no thought for anybody but themselves - if they want firreworks

of gargantuan proprotions at 11pm, they'll have them without thought for others, their pets, wildlife or

anything at all.

Then there's the annual injuries and even fatalities, more often than not caused by stupid people messing

around with fireworks, even putting them through doors and, sickeningly, putting them on animals and

getting some kind of sick pleasure from the result.

There are many, too many, ridiculous health & safety rules in every walk of life.  Yet the stupid, the thick

and the downright arrogant and selfish seem able to be left alone to cause danger, annoyance, fright and

likewise to other people and animals, unchallenged.  What a ridiculous world we live in when viewed from

that angle.

We had fireworks going off after 11.00pm last night, as well as the time you might expect - earlier in the

evening.  Two of my cats were hiding in the wardrobe and the other was on my lap.  True, there are things

available that can help keep pets calm but, as someone up there said, with fireworks being let off at

allsorts of times and for every "celebration", when can one plan to apply these remedies?  And quite honestly,

consider ourselves in the same situation - remedy or not, if somebody let off some massive great explosion

right next to us, yet we don't know where it's come from or whether it'll get us, we'd be peeing ourselves

with fright!!

I agree with RV. Organised displays only so we know when to prepare for the noise. Why do they have to be so noisy anyway. Can't they be spectacular without all the racket? Now that would be a great leap forward. Ban the noise rather than the firework.:)

I've never understood why they have to make all that noise.  When I was young there was only one that made a noise and that was a banger,  The Roman candles, Catherine wheels, silver fountains and rockets never made more than a gentle burning noise.  Well, I suppose the rockets made a whooshing noise as they went up but not all the screeming and banging they do now.  They were just fine like that!

Yes, they were happy days, CG. Gentle fireworks that were pretty to watch.

Got fireworks going off again tonight, same last night.

We've got fireworks again here tonight and they sound worse than last night.  I agree that they are worse now.  They make so much noise that they're frightening.

Fireworks time again

There is a slight difference in age between Chicken Grandma and myself (I'm 58) - but she describes just what we experienced as children.  I can remember it vividly.  Collecting for the bonfire and Dad coming home with the box of fireworks.  The bonfire on a piece of waste ground at the back.

I always remember the Dads with long firelighters nailing the catherine wheels to the fence and then letting them go - wonderful to see as a child.  The rockets were put in milk bottles before being lit.  We had no access to fireworks at all.

I know I harp on about it, but living in the country it's so different - we hear nothing here - lots of kids milling about 'downtown' in the High Street - but a noticeable police presence too.  Same in last village, but they always had an arranged bonfire and display and came round the doors to collect money from the locals.  Again, I heard nothing there, other than on one or two occasions and the bobbies were there pretty rapidly.

I feel for people in towns and cities who have to endure the upset and noise.  The biggest noise we get is when Gleneagles is hosting a wedding or similar and there is a fireworks display to end the night.

Let's hope tonight is the last night of fireworks until the New Year celebrations. Had them every night since last Friday and each night the dogs have been terrified.

we are really fortunate as we are too isolated to be bothered by fireworks so don't know how the dogs would react to them. However we are thinking that we are going to have to move and downsize in the very near future so guess we will be facing these problems all too soon.

We've had fireworks since about 6pm and they're getting louder.  We've had them since Saturday night and they are a lot louder than they were when I was a child.  I think that we'll have for the next few nights as well.  Some people who live near me can have fireworks anytime of the year till all hours.

It's like a war zone here with the loudest bangs it even rattled the windows, even my dog who doesn't normally bother looked up & got out of her bed, came across to me with her favourite ball & then went back to bed.?????? no idea what the thinking behind that was?
lol.

Well we had the loudest noises tonight but they didn't even sound like fireworks, sounded more like when you see a film about the blitz!!  Not bangs but BOOMS,  but do you know, Lottie was hardly bothered at all.  She didn't like it but she stayed around us and even had her Bonio.  I'm sure she's not deaf, or even hard of hearing and the only thing that's different now is we've got Molly and she doesn't bother about them, although she was barking, but not out of fear. They've just started again round here after a break of a couple of hours.  The wind seems to have dropped so that will be why they've started again.

If you have a problem with 'fireworks' call the Police on 999 and inform them that you wish to report a crime under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, namely 'allowing or permitting the detonation of an explosive device in a public place'.

Insist on a crime number and then email your local Police Commissioner (address and details on Google) with all the details.

If enough people do this we may be able to get fireworks banned with the exception of large, organised and licenced public displays.

The police this year (in my local and on-line experience) have been asking for information about mis-use of 'private' buying/selling of fireworks.

Gone are the days when fireworks were limited to 5th November. Now it seems to be any week either side.

Last night, two horses bolted from their stables and ran onto a main road. On the other side of us, a cow was burned by a descending rocket.

I am very fortunate that I have a calm, submissive dog who is not distressed by fireworks and bangs.
