Helloooooooo helpful people!!
I have some irritating patches on my previously ok skin.
They come & go in different areas, but mostly around my mouth, although now I have a sore one under my eye
These patches are quite small (5mm ish) but are itchy, & if touched painfully sting, & come & go. No sooner have some gone, then others start
I went to the GP after having these for a few months, & she gave me Fucidin (antibiotic) cream, which does nothing
I have Googled, & wonder whether this is because the patches are eczema?
Up to now I haven't had sensitive or blemished skin (apart from the odd normal pimple!) The only new thing I've used is sometimes resorting to facial wipes
Anyone have this? Can products start causing it?
In my experience eczema goes along with allergy, & starts in childhood - not something one develops?

id say it could be a combination of things
age and the bodies changing chemical make up (ladies things)
any product you have previously used changing their recipe
medicines affect the skin, as does smoking and the fluids you drink
exposure to sun
central heating is sometime that affects us more these days
personally i have had greasy skin all my life, so tend to avoid lots of creams
i can just about get away with e45 lotion these days
when they first brought out dove soap i used that a week that gave me a dry patch that reappears even now and again

Did your doctor not actually say what it is???. I know my skin has developed Rosacea out of nowhere but my age prbably has to do with it and hormonal changes. I was going to say generally E45 cream is quite good or S*****UG Dry Skin Cream their own brand. They are not medicated in any way. Hormones can bring up things and wreak havoc with skin and hair. Or ask at a pharmacy.

That cream from S*****UG does an Itchy Skin one too and they are good as i use them.

My excema started in my 40's & comes & goes
Cortisone cream works for me but only a strong prescription one ....... I've found that EA eight hour cream works too, its expensive but lasts for ages

My eczema started when I was about 60 so it certainly can start any time! It's small red, rough patches that itch like mad but I wouldn't say it stings (unless I've gone too mad scratching it!!) At first I found T*sco sensitive baby lotion was good, but then it stopped working. Nivea cream is quite good but the best is cortisone cream. Luckily I don't get it on my face but on arms and legs mainly. I find it often comes in symmetry.

I use an Aloe or Cucumber facial wash as it's less drying than soap. Try an Aloe Vera soothing moisturiser.

Facial wipes are dreadfully drying to the skin.
I use an organic baby wash to cleanse my skin. The type that is used for babies baths. But only buy an organic one with natural ingredients and no chemicals (Earth Friendly Baby, Green People, Bentley Organic Baby Wash etc). Easy to buy on Ebay or shops such as W**trose.
Likewise use an organic moisturiser, ideally non scented - Faith in Nature etc. Dove and even E45 are loaded with chemicals.
Specifially use a borage/starflower based cream on the itchy bits. The best one I ever used was called ARU cream - although now renamed as AR2 cream. Its a thick ointment with the herb borage as its base element. I used that on my eczema a few years ago an it cleared within 3 days and never came back

My mum did similar. She'd always liked gardening and all of a sudden she was allergic to primulas. She'd grown them every year before then and her hands and arms became all red and itchy. She was in her sixties!

Yes skin can react funny like that,,, i always remember being out in my dads garden and brushing lightly against something,, next minuite i came up in all these massive hive shapes on my arm!!!!. Then after a while they just went away!!!. You can become allergic at any time and any age aven with things or products you have used for years.

I use Cleanse and Polish by Liz Earle - it is amazing. I have to be careful about what products I can use on my skin due to allergies - but since switching to Cleanse and Polish my skin has improved dramatically - no more dry or itchy patches. It is not the cheapest product to buy but it lasts for ages.

Lots of people are apparently becoming allergic to things they have used for years because thev manufacturers have been using more of a particular preservative - apparently it's as bad as nickel for causing allergies:

Salcura do a fabulous range of products for anyone with skin problems, you should find them in your local independent health shop. All natural ( Alison is correct in saying a lot of skin products, including Dove, E45, and a lot of the more upmarket skincare ranges have an awful lot of rubbish in them ) and the feedback we have had from it is fantastic.

Firstly I would try and get GP to send you for allergy testing, if you have had no joy, it could be the most unlikely of things causing this reaction on your skin. Although he may prescribe a steroidal cream, it would be better to get to the route of the problem as using this cream is not ideal if required on a regular basis.
I am allergic to most things, but have foung like another poster L** E**** products which I use on my face annoy me the least, and do not sting like most others, use a little and it does last for ages. I use the shower wash too.
Good quality pure Vit E Oil, it is really great for making scars they all but disappear, use a little regularly.
Another thing to use in bath is handful of oats in a muslin cloth tied under the tap, so the water runs over them, this is very calming to the skin.
I would not use anything else in the bath other than a capful of pharmaceutical grade T Tree lotion, or Oilatum which your GP may prescribe should your problem spread.

First of all stop all makeup for a week!
That is everything -blusher, foundation, lippie, eyeliner - the lot.
Wash your body as normal but always rinse thoroughly with cold water (this closes the skins pores so nasties cannot get in.
So far as soap goes, I suffer from psoriasis and have found the only washing product that does not aggravate my condition is Oliatum.
I use the soap and body wash exclusivley for washing, a little Oliatum oil in the bath (only a little as it goes a long way and be careful getting in and out of the bath as it can get slippery.
Then use Oliatum lotion to moisten your skin.
If it clears up/gets better in a week then start using makeup again but only one product at a time for a week and you will soon find out which product, if any, you are having a reaction to.
Hope that helps.

Hi there all
Sorry I hadn't been back - real life intervenes on occasion!!
Wowee! What a good lot of wisdom & advice, thank you
I have stopped using any wipes & won't start again
I'll have a look through all the posts & also ask the GP again - I'm due to visit the surgery for other issues
