Re: Driving test! Lets hear of your experiences?

I passed my test about 12 year ago in my own car....age 37....2nd time around. I was so nervous before and that I was histerical in fact. I had to be slapped to get calm prior to test. I'll never forget the feeling when told I had passed even though I had to break during the test!!!!! Later in the afternoon I took the car out on my own for the first time....it broke down!
I was so pleased that did happen during the tests I would have failed. 😉

Re: Driving test! Lets hear of your experiences?

I took my first test when I was 17 and failed it.

My father had taught me to drive years earlier on our land where we had a private road. He was a good teacher but neglected to teach me - or I didn't pick it up quickly - that indicating was important! Anyway had a few lessons and failed the first test by not indicating... but a couple of weeks later passed the 2nd test after the instructor drilled me relentlessly. He was right to do so as I've always since been the world's best indicator! Lol

19 years old, passed first time of course!

There was a rumour going around that one of the examiners was a transexual, of course one was sceptical of such talk until he/she climbed into the passenger seat beside me.

All went smoothly though and he/she passed me with not problems so I'd have happily given them a big kiss no matter what! Smiley Very Happy

I did get caught on camera in September 2009 doing 40 in a 30 zone (was just keeping up with the flow of traffic)

Why do people think that keeping up with all the other idiots is a worthwhile excuse?!

Just to add.. I see you are a cyclist. We are bikers, We know only to well the "perils". But why do cyclists insist on riding 4 abreast on busy roads? Surley they must know that is DANGEROUS! But they think THEYare immune. & all too often, it is the car driver at fault! Sorry, but NO! I am not a fan of cyclsts on our busy roads!

I believe it's to do with making themselves more visible and so that other vehicles have to overtake them as they would any other vehicle.

I've not got a problem with cyclists riding like this, they only want to stay safe, what I don't like is cyclists using pedestrian crossings!

I conked the engine. I said nowt, just handbrake on, out of gear, start, in to gear, handbrake off and reversed OK. As I came out of that corner, I felt the rear wheel clip the kerb (which was a very low kerb) and again, I said nothing and carried on.

That's not a mistake Cee-Dee that's exactly what you're supposed to do, it demonstrates composure and an ability to do the right thing when something goes wrong.

I stalled on my three-point-turn, same procedure; handbrake, nutral, start engine, select gear, handbreak while checking all around.

What they don't want is someone who gets in a flap and falls apart!

Re: Driving test! Lets hear of your experiences?

I remember the first time I drove alone after recently passing my test, it was so strange and I recall being overly careful.

My test was uneventful thankfully, I took mine when I was seventeen & passed. My father picked me up from the test took me home & I was promptly sick! lol.

Re: Driving test! Lets hear of your experiences?

Failed my first test many moons ago

Did not start well - the examiner made no response to my "good morning", then it started raining, I kept stalling the engine and I just could not wait for it to be over.  During the theory questions he asked "how does the engine work" I just looked at him and thought "**bleep**".

The week before my second test there had been driving examiners on the old programme "busman's holiday" and one of the things they said was you could not be failed for stalling the engine but you would be for going on the pavement.  During my test we went through a housing estate and there was a van blocking the road.   Had to wait for about 10 hours (well it seemed like that) for it to move.  Driving by a school I stalled (but remembered that tv programme).  I passed, but my mum had to drive me home as I was such a wreck by then.

Re: Driving test! Lets hear of your experiences?

Passed my Bike test many moons ago with a bike and sidecar. Then had a plastic pig I used for work until 2005 when we decided to drive to Mongolia for charity and MrsWSK didn't want to do it in a Reliant... no idea why? So I did a 3 day refresher course (never had a lesson) . On the day of the test I had a 2 hour lesson booked. Within the 1st hour I has stalled the car, broken speed limits, and on trying a reverse park, managed to get the car at 45 degrees across the space! So I gave up and went to have a cup of coffee. Came to the test and passed with 3 minors.  Just as well as a couple of months later we were driving a 2CV across Russia!
