The big spiky one is a succulent that grows in a spiral (and currently has a flowering spike), and the other is a cutting with triangular fleshy stems.
Thanks!
Do you like my snub nosed monkey?
Don't think rude thoughts; it's the cute thing on the left...

I lost my succulent mesembryantheum in the severe frost 2 years back. I had patches about 3 feet across in the garden and had had it about 40 years. I bought replacements but they aren`t the same having much smaller flowers. Mine were about 2.5 inches across. It grew like twitch (couch grass). I just used to dig bits in anywhere and they always grew. Sold lots for charity at the village fete . So if you have a very fleshy leaved variety and want to bung a bit in the post to me next spring I am more than happy to pay you or swap you some snowdrops , single or doubles, late or early flowering.

It turned out to be a Hottentot Fig Phizz. Mesembryantheums are gorgeous aren't they. Such vibrant colours.
