we have taken food/general waste to our tip like at christmas when the bin gets full before the bin men come again and we have never had a problem.

Yes, if it doesn't say it's just recycling. Absolute godsend with these horrible fortnightly collections, especially if you have pets.

Just check on your council's website - it will be "www.nameofcouncil.gov.uk".
