Anyone knitting hats for smoothies?

The Big Knit is a joint campaign between Age UK and innocent drinks to help vulnerable older people. You knit the hats, innocent drinks wear them and 25p of every drink sold will go to Age UK.

I have already sent off a batch of 20 - just simple ones using oddments of yarn, mostly stripes.

Well done to all of you who will be or have knitted. A fabulous cause and I shall make sure I buy at least one. I wish I could knit but when my mum tried to teach me years ago I still managed to drop stitches and have big holes in that most simple of things....a scarf....I will do my bit by buying a smoothy. We have an Age UK shop in the village where I live and I buy something from there on a weekly basis anyway.

I'll do some if I get a moment.  I bought a smoothie with a hat on last

year and the little mauve hat is sitting on top of a jug in the kitchen.

It's a good quirky idea to raise awareness and funds and doesn't

cost anything much, especially as most knitters have little bits of wool

hanging about.

They have to be sent in by the 31st October. A local Knit & Natter group have made thousands!

Apart from bringing awareness of the cause, I always think it's a pity doing 'useless' things like that.  I know they're amusing and people like them, but wouldn't it be better to knit squares or something.  It's like these sponsored silences.  Why not sponsor something worth doing instead.  A sponsored litter-pick or a sponsored help an old person etc.

I think I agree CG. Knit an old person a hat would have been better & sell them in the Age UK shops.

Well I made one. I can appreciate what others are saying but I made this in a couple of hours, I probably wouldn't have the time to knit an adult size hat. Also this is made from wool I already had, to make a full size hat worth wearing I would have had to buy wool.

Anyway here is my hat!
