I'd love to do this. Where would I start?

I've done it but only got offered assignments once every month or so. I soon decided it wasn't worth doing.

Well I'm retired so once a month isn't bad. I just love the idea of it.

I did it for a short time - must be about 12 years ago - when I was between jobs and doing all sorts of odds and bobs. But I also found it just wasn't worth it. I would be booked for one hour, so that's one hour's money. By the time I'd got to wherever, done my hour and got home again, it was half a day. And, of course, you are then in a shopping centre, so invariably spend more than you've earned!
And on one occasion I was served by some one I knew and I had to put in a bad report, so I felt terrible about that but no point lying. That's the nature of the job. I did get one job where I had to have a meal, with OH, at Gatwick but that was the only one like that. It was mostly about service in shops.
Just wasn't worth the hassle.

I never thought I could make a living, but thought it would be nice to report on friendly service. However I haven't had an assignment I could reasonably do, and having seen one of the assignment shops personally, the service was bad. Don't think I'll be taking this up!

Roofie, it was advertised on the Universal Jobmatch website. They offered jobs in my home town area, and made out you could make a living at it.

I do similar on a voluntary basis for the local council - call in and enquire about car parks, phone up to ask about what day the bin collection is in a certain area - that sort of thing.
From time to time I do voluntary audits of police stations throughout the county - just get paid for mileage on that one. Looking at access to buildings, toilets, counters etc. I am given a scenario to follow.
I also do accessibility reports for Holiday Inn - £15 per report plus all expenses re-imbursed.

Mystery shoppers and hotel guests invariably come under the guise of "Make money as a ..." I answered an ad advertising "Earn money collecting for your favourite charity," It was crammed with hype If I collected money from friends and relatives, Id be "entitled" to 10% takings plus a £1.00 to cover the cost of delivering it to the area manager. Because he did such an important job, he'd be entitled to 15% of thegross takings etc. etc. - kinda brought a new meaning to the word gross. I worked it out carefullyl - it sickened me.
For every pound grossed, eight pence eventually went to where it was needed.
I put the literature exactly where it belonged - IN THE BIN!

Son used to do odd ones every now & again when he was at uni, he tended to pic the ones that involved eating out, he never did it for the money ......... just for the free meals when times were hard 😄
