Look out for the peeking green bear!
Will be spending my time down at Clifton Junction Station for quite a few weekends now, I'm starting a one man band site cleaning crew, trimming back the foliage, cleaning up the bricks of the platform etc, laying down balast when I can, generally just giving the place a sprucing up! I'd probably get a right rollocking if caught, but hey...

What green bear? Nothing happens...

Hmm, sounds like the image is not appearing in whatever you are using to view, but after a moment or two, a green bear peeks out from the left side panel of the message box.

Windows with Chrome... such things usually work...

Strange as to why you were not seeing it, as I am using the same browser and it was showing up fine for me... confusing!
Anyway, the clean up of Clifton Junction Station is coming along well, I've cleared some of the path, taken down some of the fallen trees and branches, clearing the muck and dead branches from one of the platforms and done some weeding.... lots of nettles, brambles and these sort of hollow shoot things, no idea what they are called, but I think it's because of all the wet weather we've been having. I will hopefully be going back again this Sunday, though I may leave it a week to alleviate suspicion by the locals! ![]()

Have the locals been taking an interest in your activities, then?

Not as far as I'm aware, thankfully, and if they haven't, I'd like to keep it that way as long as possible! Though once I start bringing in the cement and ballast bags, that might tip someone off methinks!

Just a thought - as a disused piece of railway infrastructure, if it was never sold off at any point it probably is the property of Network Rail?
25-10-2019 5:11 PM
Hmm, not sure, I've not been able to dig up anything of them still owning it, or if it is in the hands of anyone else, there's also no notice of tresspass or anything and there's a public footpath that goes by it. The only thing in the area is a mini electric substation, which does seem to accumilate a lot of fly tipping junk beside it, so it doesn't look like anyone comes by to check on the place... plus the station area itself has had a lot of junk dumped on it as well!

If it was never sold after the line closed then it's almost certainly in Network Rail's ownership.

I'll let you know if I get collared 😉

Meanwhile, still on the subject of railways... sort of... yesterday I visited the largest model railway in the World, although to call it a model railway does it an injustice as it is far more than just a model railway. I refer, of course, to the Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg. Have you been there?

Nein, ich habe nicht! Ich kann irgendwann gehen wenn immer ich da bin mit nichts zu tun!
*No, I have not! I may go sometime if ever I'm there with nothing to do*
I might be going to the old Horwich line to do an explore down there sometime, as I have just found out the much of the area where the line to the old station was is about to be redeveloped for housing!

Yikes - yes, I'd get in there fast before it gets obliterated!

I'm making my plans for this Sunday... I hope, looking at the weather forcast, things may be a bit wet!

That's putting it mildly.
Sheffield's under water at the moment.

Well, I went, I saw, I conquered! It was wet as predicted, but it was mostly managable, a few places I could not go due to being completely flooded, but I did everything I set out to do and found everything I set out to find, plus a pleasant surprise at the beginning, I found to old Blackrod to Horwich platform.... not in that bad condition, though the place is a bit of a tip!

It looks like it's been incorporated into the premises of that scrap yard, so maybe it's had a bit more maintenance than it otherwise would have?

It's actually more towards the garage having chucked stuff into the platform area, as there is a fence separating the two.
