The railway heritage people are on there; they might be interested. And a certain business named Humm... they're somewhat into railway history as a personal interest.

Hmmm, OK, I shall try to leave space in my tweets so I can tag people in.
Hopefully when I get back, my handiwork will still be there, I'll have to get myself some wooden planks and support posts, so that things don't collapse on me whilst I'm inside the void, also hopefully there will be enough room for me to move around freely, though I suspect about a 1m head room for the most of it. It might be worth to try digging things out inside a little bit, without affecting structural integrity!

Sounds like this is getting more ambitious - beware of the curse of the Pharoahs - or whatever the northern equivalent is!!!

Well like the saying goes, safety second!
Definitely need to proceed carefully, don't want to get in there only to end up staying in there permanently, so I need to proceed as if my life depended on it, which.... it does!
24-07-2020 11:17 PM
Umm... yes.... that's a good point!
26-07-2020 3:23 AM
mmmm peter, do you think the curse of the pharoahs has struck cke ? It has been a few days since he posted.
26-07-2020 9:49 PM
It's only been two days! He often has gaps of several days between posts when he's busy with work.

OK >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> leaves suitably admonished for daring to say anything !
27-07-2020 11:34 PM
What you really mean, I think, was "writes another post to claim last place back"...?
28-07-2020 6:36 PM
I know what I meant and it had nothing to do with the last post !
cke himself said it was dangerous and I used your euphemism because he has been replying regularly within a day but then suddenly does not reply, accidents do happen and basically I was asking you if you had heard from him because you use FB and I do not. I did enjoy reading of the exploits as I found both of your dedication to a hobby commenable but will leave you both to it now.

I don't use FB actually.
Cke is always very careful and if anything untoward had happened I'd have heard about it elsewhere.

I was on holiday in Scotland last week! Also went exploring yet another disused railway station, along with the WWII Edingham Munitions Works the same day!

cke, I hope you did not leave us any coronavirus bugs as a gift . Do not know where you were but hope you had decent weather as it was not the best up here last week in some places.

I do know that Edingham is near Dumfries but you might have had your base elsewhere, I live in Ayrshire directly opposite the Isle of Arran.

Edingham is just above Dalbeattie. The picture below shows the area of the old Edingham Munitions Works that I explored, however the actual site is double if not triple the size, if you go on Google Maps you'll be able to see the lumps and bumps in the surrounding area. Also try going to Street View and look along sides of the road:

ke, I know exactly where it is having originaty lived in a small mining village about 40 miles away from it and not far from Loch Doon which was used for training during the war for aircraft.

Loch Doon is just up the road from where I was staying, which was by the shores of Loch Ken, so I did the staions at Parton, Cross Michael and Castle Douglas the previous time I went on my hols there!

You must have been based about New Galloway then cke but not as far up the road as St John's Town of Dalry. I originally come from Bellsbank a tiny mining village up the hill from Dalmellington, most of Bellsbank has been demolished since the shutting down of the pits as it was built for the miners.

New Galloway is just a bit further up the road, I go over Ken Bridge before I get to New Galloway.
