Though to expand on @plpmr some members block messages and there is no way to ensure that a member will reply [or take any notice of] a message!

EBay does not allow messages asking for contact details [for instance to view an item] prior to a sale taking place.

Be aware of messaging rules,  no contact details can be exchanged between members Before an item has been purchased.

eBay do scan and read all messages going through their system.

Again no matter how innocent or even not eBay related ,  f you find your friend and they leave you a phone contact number to call them ,  this too will be seen as a potential off eBay sale in progress.
