What's with all these ridiculous new "badges"?

Is it just me, or are others insulted by the infantilisation of this board, and being awarded badges, for "being helpful", or whatever?

I'm a grown up, not a child. I don't need badges so others can see how helpful I am.

My 3 year old granddaughter get awarded badges at nursery school, for acheiving things like washing her hands, brushing her teeth, being nice to her little sister etc., and quite honestly, it feels like I'm seen by ebay, as having about the same mental age as her!

We're all adults here; I just wish eBay would treat us as such.

Over promise, then under deliver = negative buyer experience, INR cases, unhappy buyers and sellers.
Under promise, then over deliver = Positive buyer experience, joy and happiness all round.
If only eBay could get their heads round this basic concept, this would be a happier place for all.

I have 17 badges. I was a bit concerned about the award of the last few as I had not posted or started or solved any discussions or problems lately. I was worried I may have been hacked, but a previous poster mentioned that the badges may be being awarded retrospectively.

Just had booster number 4. Didn`t get a badge or lollipop for being brave off the Doctor. Gutted.

So why are you taking absolutely no notice of the opinions of the community?

NO ONE wants these, apart from "the team".

I doubt that they have any say in the matter. Whatever is said by the reps on eBay the bottom line is eBay.com say jump and eBay UK say how high.

I got a new badge today.

I have now acheived everything in my bucket list and I can die happy.

Long queue at the walk-in for the booster (choice in my area is 30 miles, 50 or 63, until doctors' surgeries start offer flu & Covid jabs from 1.11.22). Hats off to the vaccinators. They were doing people so fast you barely had time to sit down and only a second to tell them 'thank you'. People noticed and were already disrobing to expose an arm before they reached the front of the queue. Absolutely no time for badges or lollipops.

Hi all,

Our October Badge rollout is now complete as of yesterday evening.

All badges planned to be introduced are now on accounts and members will earn them moving forward as they use the community.

We may add badges in the future but I don't think this will be any time soon.

Appreciate your feedback on this thread.

Thanks,

Katie

If the badge feedback was so appreciated on this thread why was it moved to a lot less visible area.🤔

Doug, "We may add badges in the future but I don't think this will be any time soon." is NewSpeak for "we saw that everyone sees this idea as a lead balloon, but we don't want to admit losing face over it".  Let's just relax and ignore the badges.  Politicians may make U-turns, but Ebay struggles with that.

What eBay really struggles with is this... here's a clue.

WhatsApp went down for a little while on Tuesday and this is what a WhatsApp rep said ""We have fixed the issue and apologise for any inconvenience."

The programming errors on eBay waste hours of customers time, far more than any WhatApp problem, but does any rep here ever say anything similar.

Hear, hear.

Instead of "any inconvenience" I'd like to see firms using the more accurate "the inconvenience".  Had a 9.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. scheduled power cut in my area last Wednesday, affecting thousands. (I do appreciate they need to do it for certain repairs.) The power company apologised for "any inconvenience": shops, schools, doctors, dentists, garages etc had to close...and I couldn't use eBay and earn more badges.

If you look back at my opening post, you will see that the title was a question, NOT a suggestion.

I started this as a discussion, quite correctly on the discussion board. I wanted to hear other's opinions, and got many... until you moved it.

Hiding it here, so that very few ever see it, or get a chance to reply, is surely in direct opposition to your stated desire for more members to become active in the forum? I note that this location has had just ONE other thread started this year!

Can I ask please, that you return this to the discussion board, where I originally posted it?

Thank you.

I wondered what had happened to this thread.

I guess we can look forward to the EDD threads being moved to the Books Board sometime soon 😞

At a guess : Estimated Delivery Date.

Or, if you're pregnant, Estimated Due Date.

Or Early Disease Detection.

Or, amongst many other TLAs, Explosive Detection Dog, though I can't really see the point in training a dog which explodes when it detects something...

You're welcome, John : )

🙂

Thanks.  OK, I'm not pregnant.  And allegedly I'm not a dog, though on the Internet you can't be certain.

I'd forgotten about the delivery estimates stupidity.  I tilted at that windmill numerous times, being told it was a bug that would be fixed... a temporary glitch... a proprietary algorithm that was working by design.  Whatever it was it never changed.  I found if I set 5 day despatch and always chose "5 day other courier", it gave me a certain amount of leeway.  And I ramped it up further, only marking items as dispatched on the last possible day.

I know what badges I'd award ebay.

Hi katie@ebay
On yesterday's Chat, you wrote

I appreciate the suggestion. For now, we have changed the name of the discussion board for community topics (will take a while for changes to reflect) to meet in the middle.

The post was moved based on the subject. Topics related to community changes should be posted here. Thanks, Katie

Unfortunately, as I'm sure you must be aware, changing the name matters not - the fact that this is tucked away inside the "Cafe", means that almost no one will ever find it. Some people here have even said that when trying to find the post, after you moved it, they could not locate it. Why would anyone look in a "Cafe" for a discussion board?

So, might I make another suggestion please?

Why not take the entire Community Platform Discussion, and move it from the Cafe to the Discussion section? It would fit nicely betwn Technical Issues and eBay Ireland.

I feel sure the vastly better visibility there would give you many more feedback posts re the Community itself, and those post would, by virtue of the greater visibility, each receive way more responses.

All in all, greater member involvement... just what you have said you are aiming for.

Hope this helps?

Regards,

Steve
