Is it just me, or are others insulted by the infantilisation of this board, and being awarded badges, for "being helpful", or whatever?
I'm a grown up, not a child. I don't need badges so others can see how helpful I am.
My 3 year old granddaughter get awarded badges at nursery school, for acheiving things like washing her hands, brushing her teeth, being nice to her little sister etc., and quite honestly, it feels like I'm seen by ebay, as having about the same mental age as her!
We're all adults here; I just wish eBay would treat us as such.

Sorry but MEGBA doesn't have the same ring to it, besides it's seems to be a software operation and sounds to much like smegma😂
Edit just realised my mistake it's been a long day and I just cracked a beer

I thought that if you really needed to have an eBay related problem sorting out, you used F-book or Twitter, where an eBay employee replied. Maybe not though........... Might have a look .
I`ve cut this twice and it`s still too short.
Don`t come running to me if you break your leg.

There should be another rank - "Troublemaker" or "Poop stirrer"

Okay, I have to post in order to see what my description is. Engager, helper, informer, guide or something quite unpostable - lol.
I do love the way people still delude themselves they will ever succesfully campaign for eBay to reverse or change something as requested by the community. Even with the sales collapsing and the new search returning zero results against thousands of listings in the most common catagories, does eBay even acknowledge a problem? lol

I'm an engager!
Anybody know what that means?
Is that bottom of the heap or top notch?

From one of Katies posts.....
You can see more on the ranks here.
It gives an idea of what factors are taken into account when an account is ranked up.
A lot of these are based on actions like helpful kudos, replies, topics started etc
I just read the last sentence of the ranks notification.....................................says it all really

You don't have to do that. Click on your avatar top right of this page, then "profile" and you can see your ranking, plus any other info.

You are 2nd from the bottom but if you give every post you read a helpful vote I suspect you can climb up to guru pretty quick. That's how meaningless these badges are.

Probably one step above a reacher outer.

Anyone laying claim to the Einstein Mentor badge yet.
No good, I've had to self edit this post so many times, I had better leave it as the one line because I don't really want to be banned, not sure how many more steps I have left.

You're right, they're deluded. These forums are just a place for people to let off steam, nothing is ever acted on.
If you want action I suspect it's much more effective to go for visibility, such as Facebook, Twitter or Reddit. In the words of Corporal Jones, "They don't like it up 'em!".

"You are 2nd from the bottom"
Oh, that low! I wonder if the listing algorithim uses the ranking as a coefficient. It would help explain a lot.

The problem with these chat-room type titles is they can be extremely misleading.
For example, you are a “Specialist” so the usual visitor to the boards getting an answer / advice from you would believe that you had specialist knowledge in the subject matter.

Too many badges, probably why the notification feed isn't working properly. But who knows, maybe it's working "as designed".
As an "Advisor" that's my advice.😀

I agree very misleading especially when the final sentence on the notification about the different types of title reads.......
*It is important to note that ranks are based off community activity alone and are not based on eBay buying or selling activity. The ranks use community actions and do not take levels of eBay knowledge into account.
Personally i cannot be doing with it all even though some are obv desperate to climb the ranks with i think is just sad.

Think of the trouble I could cause if I freely handed out my specialist advice. I like the thought of that.
I've just looked at my business id which has only made 1 post on this brand spanking super duper new rubbish forum and I'm an advisor, apparently only 1 step behind this one.
Do you think an adviser and a specialist added together could make a numpty? Which which would seem more apt to me. I refuse to use advisor as it's a foreign import, bet you can't guess where from but it's the same place where these umpteen stupid badge categories came from.
Stopped posting on the other when they disbanded the Power Seller? forum, so long ago now I can't rightly remember. Wonder if I'll still be alive by the time I'm hopefully relegated to member
As for specialist, used to be great with music, (who wrote Guru Banana?) even got 39 on Pop Master a few times, though now I wouldn't even be able to name an artist in the charts except at Christmas of course and would be lucky to score 9.

We like the badges. Hope we get one for replying in this thread!
15-03-2023 9:31 AM
You've already had your first badge for replying.
Your next badge for that is 50 replies so get posting.
If you give every post you read an upvote you will collect lots of badges and that's one reason the whole badge thing is ludicrous.
