What's with all these ridiculous new "badges"?

Is it just me, or are others insulted by the infantilisation of this board, and being awarded badges, for "being helpful", or whatever?

I'm a grown up, not a child. I don't need badges so others can see how helpful I am.

My 3 year old granddaughter get awarded badges at nursery school, for acheiving things like washing her hands, brushing her teeth, being nice to her little sister etc., and quite honestly, it feels like I'm seen by ebay, as having about the same mental age as her!

We're all adults here; I just wish eBay would treat us as such.

Over promise, then under deliver = negative buyer experience, INR cases, unhappy buyers and sellers.
Under promise, then over deliver = Positive buyer experience, joy and happiness all round.
If only eBay could get their heads round this basic concept, this would be a happier place for all.

You can only "downvote" someone that you have previously "upvoted".

In other words remove your "upvote".

You've already had your first badge for replying.

Your next badge for that is 50 replies so get posting.

If you give every post you read an upvote you will collect lots of badges and that's one reason the whole badge thing is ludicrous.

And there's a lot of other reasons it's ludicrous too.

I've always marked as helpful anything I thought right/useful/helpful, in the hope it would draw ebay's attention (I know, what ridiculous over-optimism).  I nearly fell of my chair when I saw my badges.

Ebay's changes have been a total waste of time and utter stupidity.  And the badges.

It's like kindergarten, you can only take away gold stars from the kids who already have them.

What's with all these ridiculous new "badges"?

This is my favourite thread and it was a popular topic.

Yet it was moved to a less prominent area.

Why?

Maybe because a certain community team member didn't like the comments about what was their idea.

That's my theory anyway.

Plus this reply is another point towards my next badge.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I thought the same as you. If the thread had been closed it would've added fuel to the fire so hide it away in a backwater where posters rarely look.

What's with all these ridiculous new "badges"?

Whilst this thread has been reactivated my brain is working overtime again.

I am A Guru now.   Not a title i am that happy about but i went from Champion the wonder horse to a GG so i guess similar 🙂   My next step is Mentor.       Not a title i wish to have or any involvement with.    So it will be interesting to see if  i will be automatically upgraded again.  I asked to be removed from the Mentors programme.

I'm not a fan of these titles. But if I absolutely had to choose it would be Guru, which I think sounds better than Mentor.

I think of it as being a Hindu spiritual leader.    Yes it is also open to other interpretations.

But as i was told......titles will not be changed 😞    I think that if a title clashes with my own devout faith then it should be changed if i feel uncomfortable with it due to my interpretation of the title.

Every time I see Guru I think of the Beatles.

As for the Specialist, well I'm no Rocky.

I'd be looking at the alternative meaning -an influential teacher or popular expert  - which seems to fit you.
