Postage deducted from my earnings when buyer paid?

I got completely stung on an item listed with free P&P when the buyer opened up an item not received and ebay found in their favour, losing both the item and money from the P&P, so I immediately changed the P&P on items for sale to buyer pays, so this wouldn't happen again.

However, I have just sold another of the same item, and the money in my funds is minus the P&P - what am I doing wrong? I have now sold two items worth £10 and am in negative equity (as it where).

Suffice to say, I won't be using ebay to sell any longer, and there customer service is a joke! I just want to understand why I have been charged P&P.

Thanks

With Simple Delivery if you select 'Buyer pays' then the buyer is paying eBay for the postage label and eBay then provide you with the label, so there is no need for you to receive the postage funds or have to buy the postage yourself.  If you select 'Seller pays' then the label is still provided by eBay but you will be paying for it instead of the buyer.

Okay, I think I understand that, thank you for your reply.

Please do you know if there is a way to get the buyer to pay postage and then actually get the money that I sold it for? I've sold items on ebay for years and this has never happened before; I suppose this is something to do with recent changes.

So, I sell for £7 and buyer pays postage, but I only receive £4.06 (£7 - £2.94 postage).

Plus a lost item - £7 + £2.94 means I have paid £5.88 to sell two items. I might as well have just thrown them in the bin and saved myself some money.

If you list an item as Buy it Now for £7 and buyer pays Simple Delivery postage, you will get £7 (minus any listing upgrades or promotions).

The buyer will then pay £7 + buyers protection fee (about another £1) + the chosen Simple Delivery postage cost.

If that item is lost before delivery, then ebay should refund the buyer and make no further deduction from you.

Was the lost item the album or patterns? They both look like Simple Delivery, if so you could ask customer services what happened - or we could try going through it here, if you were prepared to answer questions.

It was the concealer. Evri "lost" the parcel, then it got delivered after Ebay refunded the buyer, so I got nothing from them and had paid £2.94 for postage. Minus £2.94. Minus £7 worth of item.

I had another for sale also at £7, but I changed it to buyer pays postage, so I wouldn't lose out again.

I received £4.06

The photo album sold for £15 buyer pages postage. I received £12.06.

I am buying postage despite my listing's saying buyer pays postage.

Never used to happen like this.

As that's a multi quantity listing, which you've revised between sales I can't really tell what has happened.

If the item is sold without Simple Delivery, and lost - the seller loses both the item cost and postage. You can send the buyer a request to pay by paypal (or another method), if you want - the transaction is over from ebay's perspective.

The photo album is interesting though. The missing £2.94 is not a postage price option on that listing. Did you buy a separate label? Or could the £2.94 be from a different item?

Can you post the Payment breakdown shown on the photo album order - something similar to the below?

Postage deducted from my earnings when buyer paid?

Hi, this has also happened to me on 2 occasions. I have been selling on eBay for 20+ years and I’ve never had this problem. I understand the “simple delivery “ concept but it’s clearly not working as eBay appear to be taking money for the postage twice (once from the buyer and once from the seller)

I also cancelled an order before it was posted, so didn’t request a postage label, and yet was still charged, leaving me out of pocket.

id be interested to know if you got to the bottom of why it happened to you?

Hi there, I have also been selling on ebay for over 20 years. I tried to dispute this and was mucked around and lied to by ebay customer services so much, that in the end, I just gave up. Of course, this is probably want they want. I now sell on Vinted. I'm done with ebay! Sorry to hear you had to go through this too.
