Photographic evidence of a delivery

Ebay really does need to step in and insist on having photographic evidence of a delivery. Over the last month I have had two parcels go missing after they were left outside of my front door, but ebay didn't honour their money back guarantee the the couier had sent an email saying the item was delivered and handed to the customer, untrue on both counts.

Had a "delivery" last night, which I only found this morning - after a delivery email from the courier - sat in a puddle outside my front door, luckily the item was wrapped in a plastic bag as the delivery bag fell apart when I picked it up.

As a buyer I have no influence over the way the couriers work and have no comeback when an item goes missing due to their actions, losing out financially, the only people who can infulence the way they work is the seller or Ebay (by insisting on the photographic evidence) My only resort is to contact the seller and explain what has happened - in both of my cases the seller didnt respond

It seem's that Ebays concerns are over, as soon as they have my money, after that they are uninterested.

Photographic evidence would prove that the parcel had indeed been handed over, protecting both the buyer and the courier. In the case that a parcel had been left with a neighbor, a photo would identify which neighbor.

Some couriers already carry out this practice, the rest should be made to comply

Ebay is very keen to have us post photos on our feedback pages, so why not extend that idea to the delivery side ?

Re: Photographic evidence of a delivery

Yeah iv had the same problem with eBay they are a proper joke picture of parcel left in an open yard beside the bin is good enough, well eBay I don't live in the fking bin. And yodel keep saying the seller needs to contact them and they can help as it's clear by pic and tracking info they are to blame but the Chinese seller doesn't care with eBay allready siding with their bin tracking.  Propper daylight robbery

Re: Photographic evidence of a delivery

Yep, ebay really does need to change it's defination of a delivery and start to insist on the photo evidence of the package in the open doorway to prove that an actual delivery took place. But you try and get to talk to someone about it and you end up here.

I have started to leave sellers bad feedback when it happens now, they are paying the courier to deliver, if the courier fails, then the seller should be dealing with it, not me !!

Re: Photographic evidence of a delivery

If you leave bad feedback for a seller that can show item was ,erm ,"delivered" they can get it removed quite easily.

I think one way of reducing this issue would be for all couriers to upload the GPS coordinates of where item was delivered to.

Ebay could have the coordinates of all addresses items were supposed to be delivered to so it would be easy for Ebay to tie the two together or not.

So,if a buyer were to make a not received claim Ebay could see if it was actually delivered to the correct coordinates.I don't think this could work for flats or multiple occupancy as the coordinates don't specify individual addresses within the same building.

This wouldn't obviously stop doorstop thefts etc.

Re: Photographic evidence of a delivery

Couriers already sent the coordinates / postcode and that is what ebay bases their delivery on.

But the coordinates are exactly the same as the step outside your door, the bin storage 5m from your door or actually you receiving it from the courier, plus as you say flats might have many addresses at that location , this is why a photo of the open doorway is needed. There can be no arguing by either the seller or the buyer about a delivery and so no one stands to lose money over it. But saying that, ebay have shown me photos of items left outside my door that have been stolen but because the GPS tracker information shows a delivery (and I live in a flat), ebay wont honour their money back guarantee, as they insist that it has been delivered (" the computer says SO, despite them looking at the physical evidence)

Most courier sites also claim that they will attempt to deliver your package up to three times - never happens, if I'm not here it gets left on the door mat - that is the service that sellers are paying for

ebay needs to start doing something, instead of just claiming that they want a better, safer market place and they we are protected by the money back guarantee if your item fails to be delivered

Re: Photographic evidence of a delivery

This is classed as a deliveryThis is classed as a delivery

This is my latest "proof ofdelivey" photo from evri - left in my "enclosed porch". I live in a flat, I don't have a porch !!! this is a corridor that is accessable to anyone.

I have sent similar to ebay and they still insist that the tracker information shows that it has been delivered - you just can't argue with that level of stupitity

Re: Photographic evidence of a delivery

I'm out of pocket as I had a parcel left by my bin in an open yard used by more then one property and it's went missing. The yodel card and pic show this but the tracking info says it was left in shed which I have not got a safe place or shed to leave anything in . Seller messed me about saying they would accept responsibility if not found and then asked eBay to close case which eBay have done, Iv raised the issue with yodel about their employee putting false information on the online tracking and they say there investigating and id hear within 24hours and they have not got back to me. The Chinese seller is over the moon and has no intention of contacting yodel and thats also what yodel told me has to happen to sort the problem out.
19 years of eBay buying and eBay don't give a *bleep* about my parcel not being delivered properly with photo evidence and case closed.
would PayPal help or am I wasting my time?

Re: Photographic evidence of a delivery

Post a review on Trustpilot laying out the facts and advice people to steer well clear of yodel, 8 time out of 10, they will email you and ask for details, promising that they will retrain their driver, that they are so sorry and it will never happen again, until it does. They can't be bothered to answer a customer complaint, but they sure do move quick once it appeard on social media.

You can also contact ebay and get one of their "customer support" agents fo give you a call back, explain what has happened and they have to power to issue a refund, but they will more than likely give you details of a company that can help resolve the issue, but the onus is on you to do the running around

Re: Photographic evidence of a delivery

As a seller, I know that sometimes couriers don't care much about parcels, and big companies play the long game, making you contact multiple companies until you get annoyed and decide to give up. It's the same for us seller  when trying to use protection policies to get back the money we have to refund if a parcel gets lost or damaged.

One solution for buyers is to change your delivery address to a collection shop or use click-and-collect. This way, your parcel will be kept relatively safe by the shop owner or in a nearby locker until you collect it.

Re: Photographic evidence of a delivery

Which is ok, if you are able to.

I'm disabled, this is why I have home deliverys, if I could get to the shops, then I would and as often as not get the same items for cheaper.

This what I keep saying, if ebay insisted on photographic evidence of a delivery, it would protect both buyer and sell as ebays money back guarantee is way beyond a joke
