Fake Bullion Bars

Bullion Buyers Beware.Several listings currently spotted with Fake Platinum and Silver 1oz Fortuna and Johnson Matthey Bars.Have alerted Ebay with negative results. They just dismiss it despite me telling them I have collected these bars for 40 years and consider myself knowledgeable in this field.Look out for strips of 5 JM 1oz silver sealed bars and 1oz  Platinum Fortuna bars.I also suspect this seller has gold bars that are fake but images too small for details to be clear.Ebay fraud dept is a waste of space.

Re: Fake Bullion Bars

I have just been censored by the Ebay Community "Watchdog" for warning Potential Buyers about some "Counterfeit Bullion " Silver bars currently being auctioned on Ebay UK. Ebay however state on their website "Replica or Counterfeit Bullion can't be sold on Ebay". This despite numerous Seller ads listed for "Plated" Silver  Kangaroo 1oz rounds, plated 1oz silver and gold bars and numerous other denominations of deliberate copies of Genuine Bars and Rounds, all listed under Ebay's nose and NOT removed.Who are they trying to kid!!

Re: Fake Bullion Bars

While you are correct that any fake bullion should not be listed, unfortunately, the policies of the forum here also state you cannot directly name and shame accounts. Which is what you did.

Best you can do is what you have left there in that warning - it is possible some listings for Silver Kangaroo 1oz Rounds are counterfeit and to watch out.

Re: Fake Bullion Bars

Maybe then,Ebay should practise what it preaches and remove ads. where the seller STATES that the items are copies/fakes/counterfeits .It is supposed to have the Technology (AI,Bots etc) to spot such adverts? Many people buy these items so they themselves can re-advertise as the real thing.

Also,Ebay have a reporting procedure for counterfeits.I have submitted more than 50 reports through it and after 50 years of collecting similar GENUINE items,I consider myself somewhat knowledgeable on this subject.Guess how many Ebay removed off their site. ONE  !!!

Does this indicate their committment to banning Counterfeits ???

Re: Fake Bullion Bars

I'd suggest you decide if reporting to ebay is worth your time and effort.

I know that's not right - but I know the decision I would make.

Re: Fake Bullion Bars

A couple of months ago I watched powerless as a fake 1oz gold bar got bid to over £2000 and sold for about £3000 !!! I emailed Ebay two or three times to no avail. Clearly the bidders thought it was real and would probably stash it away and maybe in 5 or 10 years find out it was a dud.Would Ebay Buyer Protection help them then??? Why have a Counterfeit reporting channel when no action is taken? Why have to prove to Ebay after the event that an item is counterfeit when someone has proved this before the event.Surely prevention is better than cure? Tomorrow, someone will pay in excess of £360 for 5 fake 1oz Silver bars you can buy on Ali Express for £1.12 each. They will not know they are fakes and think they are genuine so why take them to have tested? I emailed this SELLER in case he was unaware but no response and he kept them listed. Ebay are condoning an Ebayer losing £360+ !!! Not once have I had Ebay contact me for further advice/info.They are just not bothered.

Re: Fake Bullion Bars

It doesn't say what is being plated so you can assume it's still all silver as it says you are buying 1Oz of silver

Re: Fake Bullion Bars

I've just had one ad removed, initial report was kicked back by the bot but the appeals are seen by a human. One down, a few thousand to go.
