Bullion Buyers Beware.Several listings currently spotted with Fake Platinum and Silver 1oz Fortuna and Johnson Matthey Bars.Have alerted Ebay with negative results. They just dismiss it despite me telling them I have collected these bars for 40 years and consider myself knowledgeable in this field.Look out for strips of 5 JM 1oz silver sealed bars and 1oz Platinum Fortuna bars.I also suspect this seller has gold bars that are fake but images too small for details to be clear.Ebay fraud dept is a waste of space.

Take a look at Ali Express Fake Bullion on the web and see how good and cheap these fakes are and compare to genuine bars and see if you can tell the difference. Then go to fakebullion.com website to tell you how to spot the MINUTE differences between the real and the fake. You try to stop a crime BEFORE it is committed, not after, and we are talking big money here.

A major problem buyer's can have in claiming their money back regarding fake gold/bullion is sending it back.
they cannot insure it as real gold so if it goes missing they are out of pocket.

I agree, but why do eBay have a Report Seller feature, then ignore comments when it is used to prevent counterfeit fraud.

eBay cannot act on a single buyer's report that an item is counterfeit, as it could be coming from a disgruntled buyer, or even a competitor.
eBay act on cases.
If these are fake items, once received I'm sure the majority / all recipients would see they are fake, or have them checked, then open those important cases for item not as described for a full refund.
It doesn't take many of identical cases opened for the same reason, to show a pattern, then eBay act, to place selling restrictions, or total lifetime bans from selling on their site.

The seller concerned was already showing negative feedback for a fake £2300 gold bar so your reasoning does not hold water. Can you tell a fake from a real bar?

Surely it proves their point?
One negative makes no difference, many would, the same as many cases would.

Just checked and three negatives today.Ebay not bothered !!!

Nope, I could not tell the difference, but spending that considerable amount of money I'd be trotting off asap to an expert who would verify if it's the real McCoy or not.
One negative feedback stating fake would not remove this seller.
They are lucky that feedback was not removed as it's against eBay's policy to state ' Fake ' in a feedback. Again it could be coming from a competitor.
Please note, I'm not defending a seller selling counterfeit items, this is against the law wherever you are selling the item, be it a Fake T shirt for a tenner, or a £2000+ gold bar.
eBay do not see the item so must rely on cases opened by buyers, and more than just one , as I did say in my original post , it will take more than one case for eBay to take action.

Seller now has about £5000 of bids on his items. If he does a bunk and Buyers claim,I assume Ebay pick up the bill?

I applaud anyone who is trying to see an injustice righted, but you have done everything you can by reporting this seller to eBay.
The negatives as you say are mounting up, a pattern is emerging, eBay bots will be onto it.
Big money is involved, lets hope these buyers read and see eBay's 30 day MBG , Money Back Guarantee policy which is written on every listing, as their money is safe, if they follow those instructions for a refund.

I think the Ebay Bots are still Fast Asleep.Over the years,I have reported at least 30 similar cases and NOT one has ever been actioned!! I was recently asked to become a "Mentor" and despite my 20+ years knowledge of the bullion market,I declined, because I then would have to adhere to giving out similar "excuses" regarding Ebay Policy, which I could not agree to.The pain of being swindled out of possible life savings amounts and then having to prove such, would be more than I could tolerate with the only consolation being to go through the Ebay MBG whilst the Perpetrator ,in many cases, gets off scott free! I appreciate your involvement but "closed stable door and horse bolting" springs to mind. Best Regards however.

This seller now due to receive over £10,000 in sales of his bars in the next couple of days. Why do Ebay even bother to have a "Report Seller " "Counterfeit" feature??
