Hi everybody!

The Community Chat will open at 2pm and will remain open until 3pm on Wednesday. After that it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to take care of answering any questions that may still be unanswered—We’ll get to everything as quickly as possible.

Please ask your questions in the thread below. In order to be able to answer your questions as quickly as possible, we ask you to have one question per post. Of course, you can make as many posts as you like in the Chat- the more the merrier!

Our eBay Community Team is made up of kat@ebay , dave@ebay and marco@ebay . Between us, we have knowledge in Buying, Selling, Fulfilment, Payments, and the Community itself. Anything we aren’t sure on we’ll know the people who will be! Please ask us any questions you may have and we’ll do all we can to support. We understand that certain topics, such as concerns about businesses possibly using private accounts, can be frustrating and important to you. Please refrain from asking the same question repeatedly in our weekly live chats. We assure you that we carefully review all posts in the forum and ensure that your concerns are communicated to the relevant teams for appropriate action.
To maintain a constructive and community environment, posts that repeatedly breach this guideline may be removed. Continued violations could result in further action against your community account. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in helping us keep our community focused and respectful.

To ask your question, click Reply in the lower-right corner of this post, type your question, and click Reply between 2pm and 3pm. The community team will answer each incoming question in chronological order and will quote the original question in each answer.

Please note that any reply without a question to the community team or discussion replies may be removed from the chat. We want to keep on track to get through as many questions as possible. We welcome all discussion to be moved to the discussion boards.

If you missed the weekly chat time, please ask your question in the community boards and tag us or we will be back next week with another chat!

Dear Community Team

This month I have decided to downgrade my shop, culled my listings from one category due to the continuing non activity of eBay policing the incorrectly registered sellers trading on a private account. Eg, One seller 5 shops 3000+ multiple quantity listings in each, active for at least 3 years,  reported several times nothing is done.

When are eBay going to actually do something about these sellers?

Please don’t tell to me to report, it doesn’t work.
GM

Hi guymafo, thanks for your question.

Please note that we are constantly working towards items and users that are breaching our policies, I can see what you mean. However, this is something that we are always reviewing and actioning in different ways, just because you see no actions or results, it doesn't mean that we are not taking any actions.

Thank you,

Marco

@wellingnorth wrote:

Firstly thank you for your response last week regarding charity listings.
From experience now as well I can see that the full 4% + 72p buyer fee is charged on a 100% charity listing.
But currently the blurb on a 100% charity listing still says "All net proceeds will support XYZ" or on a lower percentage something like '10% of the sale of this item will benefit XYZ'
There is no mention of a buyer fee on the listing page or on the submit bid panel so the buyer at the moment might reasonably assume that full price they bid is going to charity.
Ideally you would update your policy to discount the buyer fee for charity listings like you did for seller fees, but if that's not possible could this wording be changed to make it clearer that ebay are taking a percentage here?

I also noticed another issue with charity listings. If the postage amount charged is too much and I refund some, 50% of the refund seems to be taken from the donation portion rather than the postage so the charity loses out when that should be coming out of my payment instead.

Secondly I wanted to raise an issue with saved search emails. Previously it was fairly straightforward to see that some items were international because the prices had been converted from foreign currencies and so were odd numbers. Because buyer fees mean that many UK listings are odd numbers it is no longer possible to do that - as you can see in the screenshot attached there's no obvious way to see which are domestic and which are international.

The end result is that I am clicking through to these listings much less as I don't know whether they are international and so will have higher postage costs. Would it be possible either to show a price breakdown with original price + buyer fee, and / or to show price in original currency + conversion so that it's easier to distinguish between domestic and international listings in these emails?

Hi @wellingnorth

I'll pass the suggestion to update the wording over to the site team to make sure its displaying the most UpToDate information.

Ill ask the charity team to have a look at the issue with refunds, it might be something they are aware of. Ill let you know what they come back with.

I don't know if it will be possible to have the emails state which items are international, and which are not. My understanding of them is they are automatically generated. I'll pass the suggestion over to the site team to see if it is something that they can add to the algorithm that creates the mails.

Thanks,

Dave

Thank you for that Marco, glad to have it in black and white so that when we report this again, we have the official answer for the solution 🙂

Can I ask another & last question for today -  if it is ok for a seller to state in a listing that they are getting 2 of an item in a pack, which is in their title and listing images showing 2x but then offering 1 item (not 2) in their options to show a lower starting price or would this be considered search manipulation and/or false advertising?

Hi custom-giftsuk, thanks for your question.

This would depend, but generally, if you describe 2, and show 2 in photos, then you as a buyer should get both. If you only get one, that will send your return requests through the roof and potentially it will get you negative feedback, which is something you don't want as a seller, and depending on the case, it could be considered as not as described, yes. However, this is best to be reviewed case by case.

Thank you,

Marco

As said it is the same buyer, so I cannot understand why this is an issue.  Furthermore,  we have always been able to add the same tracking number to multiple purchases, same buyer, but separate transactions.  I cannot override it at all.

How long will it take for the shipping team to look at this please?

Best wishes

Hi @lincolnshiremarine

To be honest I didn't think it could be added to more than one transaction unless they were combined at checkout. It would be to stop fraudulent use of a tracking number to show multiple deliveries or using the same tracking ID to change seller standards.

Do you have any examples of where you've added in the past so I can send them over?

Thanks,

Dave

Hi all.  This problem has been ongoing for over 2 weeks now. I have some listing that I have chosen Global Shipping for international sales. The problem is this = When I click on Postage - See Details - then change Country  from UK to USA or any other Country, it would normally give the calculated shipping costs for that Country including all tax, custom duty etc.
It now just states " CHECK ITEM DESCRIPTION OR CONTACT SELLER "  I have  items that would  normally  be sold to USA within a short time, but now I have zero watchers.
From checking other peoples listings, this seems to be a problem affecting private sellers only since 4thFeb.
This would also explain the lack of interest and no sales. So I urge private sellers to check their listing as  they may be unaware and wondering why no sales.
I have spoken to Ebay twice and each time they have acknowledged the problem and stated they would pass the problem across to their technical team.  As of today Global Shipping is still not working!!

Thanks for the reply Dave, I think I saw somewhere on the forums something about a general technical issue where postage refunds were being split between the item price and postage cost. Obviously in general it is all coming from the seller so it may be academic, but with a charity listing that is making a material difference to the amount going to charity.

marco@ebay thank you for your reply.

However, I’m afraid I don’t believe anything is being actioned. You have a seller blatantly avoiding eBay fees and DSR and denying customers their rights.

Been reported and you are losing out on fees on over 40,000 items!
Why ?

I have two business accounts and it seems ebay have switched Global Shipping off on both accounts? As I don't recall changing any settings as would often get orders from the US and Aus on both accounts.

Why is this? and if it is ebay that has turned off Global Shipping why have there not been any notification? And why is ebay interfering in my account and business?

If it is for GPSR reason, many of my Global Shipping sales were outside the EU.

Thanks for your reply, guymafo.

If you feel like a seller is breaching our policies, feel free to report them. You don't have to believe me, if you don't wish to. However, I can guarantee you that actions are taken, and this is constantly under review.

Thank you,

Marco

I'm not the person who asked the original question, but I'm a bit concerned about this as well.  The last time I added the same tracking number to 2 transactions from the same buyer was 8th Feb, and it was working fine then.
I'm sending you a screenshot of that by PM.

Thanks for the above. I've sent this directly to the person responsible GSP on site. I'm not aware of any changes that would have caused it, but I try find out more on it and let you know I find.

Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 26.02.25 @2pm

Hello All,

Sorry I am late to the chat. I have 3 questions:

Where has the 'ending today' link gone for BIN listings? This was very useful for daily maintenance.

On the app, all of my listings are showing with the price and underneath '+ postage' even on the listings with free postage. Why does it not say free postage?

Could the address sections be changed to a maximum characters per line? I have had to change 3 addresses before posting this month as buyers use one line for their house name, street, county ....

Hi returns_andexdisplay, thanks for your post.

We've seen a few members reporting similar issues, could you please let me know if this account you're posting from is being impacted? If so, you mean that GSP is just not being added to your listings?

Thank you,

Marco

Hi @cobwebcottage ,

Thank you for the questions.

The ending today link looks to be a design change. I will get confirmation on that

If you can send me item examples that is not showing free postage on the app and I will get it checked.

I'll share the feedback regarding the address section to have maximum characters per line.

Thank you,

Kat

Hi @cobwebcottage ,

Sharing my below follow up for the ending today link being removed.

It was removed by design. Regular usage of links, page engagement and usability are factors that are looked at when making changes on the site. This link would of been a low usage link.

Other ways to check these listings would be Active Listings and then select "All filters" and from that drop down then select "status" and  another way to manage them would be to check the “Time left” on the active listing page.

Thank you,

Kat
