Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 23.04.25 @2pm

Hi everybody!

The Community Chat will open at 2pm and will remain open until 3pm on Wednesday. After that it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to take care of answering any questions that may still be unanswered—We’ll get to everything as quickly as possible.

Please ask your questions in the thread below. In order to be able to answer your questions as quickly as possible, we ask you to have one question per post. Of course, you can make as many posts as you like in the Chat- the more the merrier!

Our eBay Community Team is made up of kat@ebay , dave@ebay and marco@ebay . Between us, we have knowledge in Buying, Selling, Fulfilment, Payments, and the Community itself. Anything we aren’t sure on we’ll know the people who will be! Please ask us any questions you may have and we’ll do all we can to support. We understand that certain topics, such as concerns about businesses possibly using private accounts, can be frustrating and important to you. Please refrain from asking the same question repeatedly in our weekly live chats. We assure you that we carefully review all posts in the forum and ensure that your concerns are communicated to the relevant teams for appropriate action.
To maintain a constructive and community environment, posts that repeatedly breach this guideline may be removed. Continued violations could result in further action against your community account. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in helping us keep our community focused and respectful.

To ask your question, click Reply in the lower-right corner of this post, type your question, and click Reply between 2pm and 3pm. The community team will answer each incoming question in chronological order and will quote the original question in each answer.

Please note that any reply without a question to the community team or discussion replies may be removed from the chat. We want to keep on track to get through as many questions as possible. We welcome all discussion to be moved to the discussion boards.

If you missed the weekly chat time, please ask your question in the community boards and tag us or we will be back next week with another chat!

Many thanks,

Your eBay Community Team

I consider this to be internal information, and due to the nature of your query, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to disclose information such as goals achieved, feedback, etc.

Really ?

OK so the views of those on these boards are the only opinion as to how it went then.

When will it be deployed to Business Sellers?

So what view should Business Sellers take then ?

Assume the worst and anything else a bonus?

"This item would not be allowed through Simple delivery. Please scroll down on the page here to see the restricted and prohibited items list."

Thanks Kat, i have a parcelforce account through which i can send such items, as a private seller would i have the option to send via this alternate courier, or would i be effectively locked out of selling these items on ebay once simple delivery becomes mandatory?

Thank you Kat for that. So it does state that 2nd Class does qualify for premium service as the qualifiers are free domestic delivery within 3 working days (RM 2nd class is counted, from eBay as 2-3 working day)

Hi @custom-giftsuk ,

Yes and listings should be eligible as long as they meet all requirements.

Seller type eBay Top-rated Seller
Seller registration address UK
Returns 30 days or better
Shipping option 1 Free domestic delivery within 3 working days
Shipping Option 2 Delivery within 2 working days for no more than £10
Tracking Listings have tracked delivery services and a valid tracking number is uploaded within the dispatch time for all items >£20

Thank you,

Kat

Hi @orange_ox ,

Once simple delivery is mandatory on your account then I'm afraid that no you won't be able to send items through your own postage options.

Thank you,

Kat

So Valuables, such as jewellery, watches, and precious metals, including, but not limited to, jewels, watches, gems, precious metals, real pearls, silver, gold, which are all prohibited, will not be able to be sold by private sellers as they are all prohibited!

Wow

Hi wintersdawn1, thanks for your question.

Yes, it is. I've just checked there to double check, and it is coming up there.

re. WATCHLIST or WATCH LIST (depending on where it appears on site!)

Is Ebay going to fix the way this works for the last month or so now? At the moment you have to add the item to the main list then copy it to one of your separate lists, BUT  if you then remove it from the main list it is ALSO being removed from the separate list it was copied to as well.

Is this a feature or a bug? If it's supposed to be a feature, please explain how this is useful?

Hi @jimthing ,

There was some recent changes with the watchlist but the main point regarding items being removed from main list and separate list has been raised and is awaiting confirmation. I don't have a further update on that as of yet. As soon as I do I will post back to confirm.

Thank you,

Kat

Thanks for your reply, a45heaven.

This is not being deployed to business sellers, so I wouldn't be able to confirm when this will be deployed for business sellers as that is not in our plans.

Thank you,

Marco

Hi @orange_ox ,

The valuables you have mentioned are on the restricted/prohibited list so it means that simple delivery cannot be used. However sellers can still list these items through custom postage.

Thank you,

Kat

Sorry, not sure I understand, has it not been looked at since reported or do they not think there is an issue?

Thanks

Hi @*kittylou*

We sent the examples over to the tech team when you reported them. They advised that the number reported at the top of the SRP is an estimate, so it can be sometimes wrong. The estimate is based on what you see at the beginning of the result set and if you change this order (change the sort type) it has a radical impact on the estimate.

This is as designed and not a tech issue. We have asked that this be reviewed as a possible future update.

Thanks,

Dave

A Simple delivery question.

eBay states that all parcels are now covered against loss and damages up to delivery of parcel. However in eBay's Terms & Conditions it states these are subject to the carriers Terms & Conditions. Evri has a huge list of items not covered for loss or damage therefore I assume that they wont be covered by eBay either.

Why then are eBay selecting Evri to be the courier for my antique ceramics and are they going to cover loss or damage to these items.

Hi @bayseeker11

I've sent this over to the Simple Delivery team for clarification on this scenario.

I'll let you know what they come back with.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi @bayseeker11

I've got clarification on the above.

We have a list of excluded categories as you know:

Simple Delivery is not available for all listings. Ineligible listings include:

As long as the item is correctly listed in an eligible category the full item price is covered if lost or damaged in transit, including fragile items, as long as you have packed your items securely. Here are some tips on packing your item:

  • Choose a container that’s slightly larger than the item, so you can cushion it with packing material on all sides.
  • Surround the item with bubble wrap, packing peanuts, foam, or paper (so there’s no room for things to move around).
  • Use clear or brown packaging tape, eBay-branded tape, reinforced packing tape, or paper tape, which should be at least 2 inches wide.
  • Don’t use masking tape, cellophane tape, cord, string, or twine.
  • Tape the opening of the box and reinforce all seams and edges.
  • Clearly label the package on a flat surface and include a return address.
  • If you’re reusing a box, cover any previous labels and cross out any previous addresses with a black marker. You can also print a packing slip and include it in your package when you print your label.
  • For aerosols, batteries, food items and fragrances, see additional information on packaging requirements.

The carrier may have their own exclusions, but you will be covered by us.

Thanks,

Dave
