💬 Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 15.03.23 @2pm

Hi everybody!

The Community Chat will open at 2pm and will remain open until 3pm on Wednesday. After that it will be closed for further questions. Of course, we will continue to take care of answering any questions that may still be unanswered—We’ll get to everything as quickly as possible.

Please ask your questions in the thread below. In order to be able to answer your questions as quickly as possible, we ask you to have one question per post. Of course, you can make as many posts as you like in the Chat- the more the merrier!

Our eBay Community Team is made up of kat@ebay , dave@ebay  and katie@ebay . Between us, we have knowledge in Buying, Selling, ProTrader, Fulfilment, Parts & Accessories, Payments, and the Community itself. Anything we aren’t sure on we’ll know the people who will be! Please ask us any questions you may have and we’ll do all we can to support.

To ask your question, click Reply in the lower-right corner of this post, type your question, and click Reply between 2pm and 3pm. The community team will answer each incoming question in chronological order, and will quote the original question in each answer.

Please note that any reply without a question to the community team or discussion replies may be removed from the chat. We want to keep on track to get through as many questions as possible. We welcome all discussion to be moved to the discussion boards.

If you missed the weekly chat time, please ask your question in the community boards and tag us or we will be back next week with another chat!

Many thanks,

Your eBay Community Team

💬 Weekly Chat with the eBay Community Team- 15.03.23 @2pm

Can some look at the eBay item descriptions on a desktop to solve the chaotic nature of how they are shown.

Lets face it, it is already difficult enough to get buyers to read the description anyway...

Can someone at eBay put their hand up and tell me why something so basic as just showing the actual description from the seller, that is a material part of the contract of sale, sometimes shows up in at least 3 different ways on the same day, on the same browser, on the same PC?

Is this a technical issue?

Is this a soft roll out of a new feature to see which members prefer?
Is this another part of the streamlining eBay's features akin to the one that stops us from seeing sales history that we asked about in last week's chat?

Does at eBay anyone even know this is happening?

Sometimes shows full description correctly?

description1.jpg

Sometimes shows description collapsed with a pull down box to scroll down with to be able to read it all?

description2.jpg

Sometimes hides it almost entirely, with a button to click to show more?

description3.jpg

We put a ginormous amount of time and effort into making item description with our own photos of actual products, fully filled out item specifics, fully filled out eBay vehicle compatability, fully tailored descriptions of the items, full populated pull down down showing vehicle compatibility in the description; the whole shooting match. Some of our listings take more than a whole working day to even make...

So it is not very fair when we do all of that, to try our absolute hardest to provide all the information to the buyer so that they can make a full informed decision whether to order or not, for it then to be hidden...

It is difficult enough getting our listings even found with the search seeming to fight against us, with a compatibility tool that doesn't work properly on the app, with all the millions of duplicate listings from some sellers that eBay are still yet to solve no matter how much we ask, on top of the description being basically hidden from buyers when using the app already.
If we ever do get anyone to look at our items, now we have to contend with eBay not even showing the description on a PC either?

As always, any help appreciated.

Cheers

Russ

I'm going to bleet on about the new jewellery policy again.  Is there any chance of any feedback on previous issues raised?  I'm three weeks post receiving the zero notice change email and still don't know how to proceed with listing many jewellery items - I only sell jewellery.  Is hallmarked gold with topaz really relegated to fashion where it wont come up in searches?  What about tanzanite, pearl, onyx?

Will users be banned if they don't make these nonsensical changes because hundreds of thousands of listings don't comply which is why search defaults to fine and theres no point listing in fashion.

I am using Pale Moon version 32.0.1 which is their newest version updated in the last month.

This is the page that loads when I click on the Nectar link in my Ebay(https://www.ebay.co.uk/nectar/home).

And this is an example of what happens if I click the "Submit Bid" button on any auction listing(https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125809374799).

I have reported other problems related to Pale Moon to Ebay in the past which have been resolved including the Shopping Basket not working correctly. I had hoped that these new problems would also be resolved.

Good afternoon,

I am asking if there is going to be any inprovement on contacting  Customer Services and if they are actually going to action the problems and technical glitches on eBay? I have been subjected to several glotches on the platform and it is impossible to get them looked at. Executive Escalations no longer are interested and conversations, when available, with CS is always a pre-written script that they recite. I have heard it so many times now that it is embarrasing for eBay. We are your customers. Are eBay going to start looking after us?

Hi @sandown_sweets

Technical issues are prioritised based on a number of factors such as the impact on the site and the number of  accounts affected amongst others. This can sometimes give the impression that an issue is not being looked in to. This is not the case, all reports are reviewed and classified by severity. They are then placed in a queue to be actioned.

You can report any issues you have through he Technical Issues  forum and we will post any updates on the issues there.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi All,

I am following up from this weeks chat on the points raised regarding the differing views of the item descriptions. I have linked in with our development team and confirmed that these changes being displayed are part of an ongoing testing phase for viewing items on the desktop platform. We have shared the feedback given on this chat as well as the other discussion boards for the team to take on board for  changes. We will continue to monitor the threads on this topic and give the feedback to the team.

Thank you,

Kat

Hi @ojewellery

I have some answers to the above but I'll post in the main thread you have on the changes here so I can track all the feedback and questions for this upcoming change.
