"UK Only" location filter now includes China

I am finding that it is now  impossible to filter the loation of the products that I want to buy

I click on the "UK only" filter but then I have to go through 1000s of listings that are located  in China but claim to be in the UK.

This is making for a very bad buying experience and is putting me off even trying to find products on this site.

Am  I wasting my time complaing to the site administrator or should I just shop elsewhere?

Re: "UK Only" location filter now includes China

This has become a serious problem now for me.

I've just been searching for a particular product that I need for the weekend (it's currently Monday).

When I search for UK only listings, every one I've looked at so far (I've gone through 20 or so and now given up) claim to be in the UK but seems instead to be sending from China.

Some even say fast & Free, expected delivery Weds/Thurs, but in the listings say 3-4 weeks delivery.

In the past I have been naive and trusted the eBay's expected delivery time, but the products have indeed taken weeks to arrive.

My wife got caught out a couple of weeks ago and bought some trainers 'from the UK'. They came from China and were way too small.

She couldn't return them as the return address was China and would cost more than the cost of the trainers.

It's not good enough. eBay just isn't usable for me when I need something same week. Seems to be full of fraud now.

I preferred eBay to Amazon as it is slightly cheaper, but I have to pay more now and just go with Amazon as at least I can get same week delivery with them.

Sort it out eBay!!!

Re: "UK Only" location filter now includes China

My advise although some wont agree but if your looking for something specific do the following which is an example

This example is based on a parcel with royal mail which lets say for easiness costs £3.00

Lets say your looking for something we will use a mug from a movie that will clearly be a parcel size you instantly know the average seller will have a postage cost of around £3.00 which will be as postage costs or included in the price under free post.

The mug will now have a lowest price of possible price of £1.00 (only my opinion)

Now that you have that price in mind you can also use the Minimum price filter which will make your search much better, it will filter out most of the annoyances but do bear in mind some sellers may have a lower price

Only my opinion on how to do searches but i always use the minimum possible postage costs which always helps me

Re: "UK Only" location filter now includes China

Its' really getting frustrating , when you do not know the location or real delivery date of the goods you have ordered. Surely ebay uk could do something about this?

Re: "UK Only" location filter now includes China

Thanks gilliakend-8, I have even tried checking the postal charges, but some of them are charging nothing for p&p.

If you go right to the bottom of the listing , you can find the sellers name and address and no surprise most of them are in China.

Re: "UK Only" location filter now includes China

Well it should be I bought a item from a uk seller that needed to go back and although the parcel had a uk returns address seller wanted me to send to china wich would have cost me more than I paid I could not get the seller to send me uk asress in the end ebay stepped in and because seller claimed he was in ireland when he was not i got a refund  everyone is intitled to a decent transaction no matter where or how much it costs when i want uk only thats exactly what I want

Re: "UK Only" location filter now includes China

I ordered an item, which was advertised in London, but in reality it was in China. never received it, but the seller wanted me to return it to China, if I received it. This would have cost me a fortune in postage charges. Luckily I was refunded my money through eBay's intervention with the seller.NOW I will check that they are within 500 miles before I order and make sure they have a UK addess.

Re: "UK Only" location filter now includes China

To avoid this happening you need to make sure the item location (which is what the search looks for) is UK and that the seller is registered in the UK.  You check the second bit on the feedback page.

Re: "UK Only" location filter now includes China

Most of them are mate. That's the point.

They register a UK address just to spoof their location to eBay.

Then they fulfil from their real address in China.

Re: "UK Only" location filter now includes China

Now the seller wants me to wait another 5 - 9 days as he thinks my item has been lost. I have asked twice for a refund, so will now have to deal with eBay regarding this.

They're still sending items from China and The Far East.

Re: "UK Only" location filter now includes China

This post may have started in 2016 but 3 years later ebay are still doing nothing about it. I am quite frankly sick of buying from an item that is in a major uk city only to find when i get it the packaging states it is clearly shipped from china. If i was prepared to wait for a china item i would not change the filter! I now check the sellers address on the listing, if it is not in the uk i move on to the next.

3 years is a long time to stop or limit something thats easy to fix but they seem to be making moves now, which hopefully will make buyers experiences better

Re: "UK Only" location filter now includes China

Trying to find a rubber craft stamp/s for use as a background.  Used UK Only, but there seem to be a couple of sellers (who are supposedly based in the UK) that take 4 weeks to deliver!  So I don't think the goods are actually in the UK - or Royal Mail are being very slooooow!

What should be a fairly quick search takes ages, as one of these sellers has at least 10 pages at a time, then there are a couple of pages of UK sellers then back to the 10 pages again!  I think the items are coming from the USA though.

I've reported one of them - the one with 10 pages at a time; I don't expect much to be done though - especially if Ebay lose out on their fees!!

Re: "UK Only" location filter now includes China

It's getting to be beyond a joke. ebay claim they're doing something about it but there are sponsored listings right now, evading the location filter. There should be a proper report button, highly visible near the buy button, and they need people to judge the reports, not leave it to algorithms.
