Amazing how Ebay can con us all into now charging our buyers for our goods. I'll lose most of my buyers as the "new" price they will pay is now NO REFELCTION on the Value of the goods I sell. Typical Ebay GREED and STEALTH. Do Ebay include our postage costs? Can anyone enlighten me please? If they do there is no point giving my buyers FREE postage as Ebay will charge them for that too. RIP OFF BRITAIN. 😣😣

Hi, yes seems Ebay only want Business Sellers as on 30/1/2025 on "ebayuk-news@ebay" post they state the NEW Buyer Protection Fee will come at NO extra cost to Business Sellers or your Buyers! Only Private Sellers and customers then, no doubt this will put off Buyers me included purchasing any thing on Ebay.

I think you’re right to bring up postage in relation to the Buyer Protection Fee.
Another thing that the BPF seems to have turned on its head is the relationship between selling price and postage. While we had seller fees, ebay started charging them on postage as well as the price; this I think was to prevent sellers setting a low price and adding as much fee-free postage as they could get away with. Now that the BPF is only charged on the selling price, the incentive to bump up postage charges has returned.
For instance, say I currently price an item at 75.27, with free postage, so that, with BPF, the buyer pays £79. If I instead charge £20 postage, I can set my price at £56.04, and, with BPF and postage, the buyer still pays £79. But I make £76.04, not £75.27.
Or am I overlooking something?

That is correct if you offer ' Free Postage' that is postage included in the starting price then the Buyer Protection Fee is charged on that total amount.
If you list an item price plus £** postage costs the BPF is only charged on the item price, so it's seemingly better now, Not to offer ' Free Postage'.

I have been a non business ebay member since 2004 buying and selling many things. I recently bought an inexpensive item for £4.99 and was surprised to find my total buyer cost was £5.76 as this included a mysterious buyer protection fee ( i thought buyer protection was automatically there from day one in 2004) So it's back to Amazon for me because of Ebays despicable greedy ways.
