hi, I would like to ask if anyone else has had similar experiences from sellers.
I placed a bid last night for a rug that is being sold with a 7-day listing, and there's still two days until the end of the auction. I am the highest bidder.
Imagine my surprise when the seller messaged earlier today with a 'sorry, the item has been sold' - while the listing is still live! I responded with a surprise, and stated that the listing is still live, but haven't had any reaction from the seller.
Obviously, I need to contact the customer service asap to get my bid removed (if it's possible) to avoid paying for nothing, and report this seller.
Can I ask if this a well known technique, as I haven't come across this earlier?
Thanks!

sounds like the seller has done an off eBay deal.
Leave you bid and see what happens if you win - you can come back here for further advice.

Hi, following my query on Monday, I did unfortunately win this rug.
Immediately afterwards, I contacted the seller to confirm whether he/ she has the rug and can post it, or to confirm that this listing was for an item that doesn't exist. No response.
I guess my best option a
would be to contact eBay and ask them to intervene and cancel my bid.
According to ebay, need to pay this item by 3rd August.
Any suggestions on my next move will be gratefully received!

How much is it?
The best thing to do is pay and if necessary one day after the last estimated delivery date open a not received case and escalate it to eBay on day 4 for a full refund.

Once you get your refund leave feedback to reflect your experience - seller refused to honour the transaction.

Most probably had it listed on another platform and it sold there first, that's why you had the message saying it was sold.

Your lucky to be told he had sold it.
He could just have let it run then claimed it was lost in the post.
