EBAY refused to remove illegal product and provide their regulator to take it further.

Not sure if it just me but I found it quite shocking.

First, I cam across a listing that contained an illegal substance GABA:

The substance is listed so no idea how EBAY even allowed to list it, and then sell 100+ units? Having it reported with details and legal regulations just got a response:

We looked into your report and didn’t find the listing to be in violation of our policy.  This determination was made by a customer service agent.

If you reported content that isn’t listed below, we’ll send a separate email once we’ve made a decision.

Your reference ID:

Now it gets even better: when I contacted EBAY asking for their regulator details to make a further complaint, they just refused to tell me that:

'we will be unable to provide that details for security and privacy reasons'

What sort of place is it?

Ebay doesn't have a regular for it's activities as an online market place.

GABA is used in supplements.  If you research there are many business sellers who have these and I am not too sure that it is illegal otherwise it would not be approved for sale or consumption.

Borderline Medicinal products

Not illegal

Regulatory Notices

Are you aware that most medicines originate from the planet ie. herbs, flowers  etc

Pharmaceutical companies have made big buck on this.

It is well known that these companies want vitamins/ supplements to be regulated and only available by prescription... again big bucks for them.

Everyone is responsible for their own health and to choose wisely.

Gaba is not banned or illegal - certain companies ( unnamed) have been issued regulatory notices about the " effects" not just of Gaba but of other " medicines" such as Melatonin.

I appreciate your concern, but it is not under Ebay control.

...Assessment found that products contained DMAA, GABA, Melatonin,
Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA) as an extract of Garcinia cambogia...

It is a regulated substance and not allowed to be sold to the public. It is ebay's concern as they have a policy for that:

Was the seller a UK seller?

Ebay would not act if the product was for sale in/from a country where this is not a prescription only product such as Germany or Poland.

Re: EBAY refused to remove illegal product and provide their regulator to take it further.

Then eBay must do their due diligence -

However,

GABA is in supplements - mainly for anxiety amongst other things, and is sold in the millions by branded companies.

These multi million pound companies would not risk their licenses to manufacture or promote or sell " illegal substances"

Again " health supplements" are being scrutinised with the opinion that any vitamins / supplements/ natural health products can only be sold by " approved  & registered" outlets and/or prescriptions only.

There is far more to this than meets the eye.

Classification as Borderline medicine -  it is not being sold in its purest form...

It is in supplements which are approved.

Regulation does not mean illegal.

You could possibly contact the companies who are selling them and if they provide evidence you can forward to  eBay ?

UK seller, if reported to MHRA it will get swiftly removed. That says it all really, and I will definitely not investigate it further on ebay's behalf.
