Hi, I’m hoping someone can help me. I purchased car parts advertised as “genuine”. The parts were installed by a dealership in 2023. In Nov of 2024 the engine seized on my car. I was informed by the mechanic that the parts installed were indeed counterfeit and not genuine and that is what caused the engine to seize, it will cost upwards of $5,000.00 to repair the car now. I’ve attempted to contact the seller multiple times to ask for certification of authenticity but he never responded. eBay’s leadership attempted to contact him. He has never responded to their request. I’m on the verge of getting a lawyer. Does Ebay hold any accountability for their sellers to get this matter resolved. Any advise on what to do next? I’ve filed a report with the Internet Crime Center but that make take a while to get a response. Does Ebay have a formal complaint center to file a formal complaint?

Ebay hold no accountability after 30 days, you will get no help from them. This is between you and the seller.

As has been mentioned eBay will not be able to help after such a time period. In the UK there are agencies and bodies that may be able to help however I note you are registered in the United States and you have posted, probably by mistake, on the UK boards.
i would suggest you log on to eBay.com and repost there, someone may be able to help you. I would also suggest you pass on your experience and details to the car manufacturer. They probably will not help you but may be able to take actions to prevent this happening to someone else.

The only sure way to get genuine parts in this country is by going to a dealership.
Even then you have to specify which parts you want.
The majority of car spares in this country sell parts to fit xxxxx model.
