Wrong item sent

Hi ,

   l bought an expensive jacket  and the seller has sent the wrong one. The one he sent me isnt even in his listings.

Do l need to open an item not as described to send it back, is that the safest way? l have emailed the seller but havent heard back yet.

Yes, do it all through ebay.  If seller does not accept it or does not provide a paid-for return postage label remember to escalate the case within 30 days and ebay will enforce it.

Thanks for that. lve never had to do a return before. You know how in my ebay tracking often doesnt update and even when you recieve your item the tracking still says in transit? So he sent it to me Royal Mail tracked 48 but in my ebay items it doesnt show as being delivered, but as still in transit, even though it was delivered to me today. So what happens if he sends me a returns label and if he doesnt want to refund and says he didnt get it and the tracking doesnt update and ebay think he hasnt gotten it so how would they make him refund.
Also how do l get the returns label, does he post it to me, lve heard of people printing labels but l dont have a printer.

The tracking info on ebay will update itself. It is sometimes delayed. After you send it back eBay only require attempted delivery before they refund. You will receive a link to download and print out the return label. If you don't have printer try your library's computer facilities or ask a friend with a printer. If the latter you need to give them your password because they need to log in as you so remember to change that afterwards. If you can't do either you will have to pay the return postage yourself.

Ok thanks that makes sense. Although sometimes the tracking doesnt ever update, for example l sold an item in July, l sent it Royal Mail first class recorded and it was delivered as l got feedback for it, but in my sold items when l click on tracking for that item, all it says is dispatched, so lm worried the same thing might happen when doing a return.
Some other items lve sent all by tracked means also never update past the "in transit" even months later, most do but some dont, thats what lm bothered about.
l even checked Royal mails website and the jacket l recieved today still doesnt say delivered.
Anyways all l can do is what ebay say and hope it works out.

Definitely. And make sure the seller sends a prepaid return label.

If the seller has sent you someone else's order by mistake, don't be talked into posting it to the other buyer.

Sellers sometimes request this, but once you've parted with it you would lose your right to a refund. There's no guarantee that the other buyer would send you your jacket - if it's better than the one they paid for, many buyers will keep it! This often happens.

Thanks for that. l dont think l have someone elses order. There is no separeate listing in the sellers items for the jacket l recieved, l think he has put up a stock photo of a jacket, which is the one l was after, but doesnt actually have that style, but in fact has a different style of jacket by the same maker, which is what l was sent. l dont think he has the one in the photo at all.
So it def is an item not as described, and lm really peeved as it was for a present for someone who specifically wanted the jacket in the photo.
l have emailed the seller but they only reply mon to fri so should l open the case with ebay now, or wait to hear what the seller has to say?
