I got out bid at £31 in the same second it was £81! How?

Being new to this I'm looking for an answer

Bidding on an item with a maximum of £30, I got out bid at £31 in the same second then it was £81? by the same bidder, I didn't think this could happen!

The bidder put a higher bid on it. That’s how eBay works. Last minute bids are a frenzy.

sorry should've said there is still 5 days to go! the bidder out bid me then in the same second without another bid raised it to £80

Sounds like the item had a reserve.

yes it does, so would the bidding system just go straight to the reserve?

Yes, if the bid is on or over the reserve amount.
