Paid for DPD next day but seller sends by 2nd class post

I purchased some small items which are urgently required and paid for DPD 24 delivery. However the seller sent by Royal Mail 48. Thinking this was a mistake I sent a message to the seller saying that due to the urgency I would enter another order but this time please send by DPD 24 as paid for. To my surprise the same thing happened - the items were dispatched by RM 48. The seller has not responded to any of my messages. In the meantime I have ordered the items elsewhere which I should receive tomorrow.

When the items eventually arrive from the ebay seller I would like to return them (by Royal Mail 48 which costs very little!) asking for a refund on the grounds that the items were not delivered by the method ordered and paid for. Is this a valid reason for asking for a refund?

It's an entirely valid reason to ask the seller for a refund, but eBay won't get involved.

Disputes over delivery services are not covered by its money back guarantee, unless the item doesn't arrive.

If the seller refuses, all you can do is leave appropriate feedback and detailed seller ratings.

The chances of anything arriving next day are pretty much nil at present, unless you pay a lot more for a guaranted service such as Royal Mail Next Day Delivery Guaranteed.  DPD's and RM's 24 and 48 hour services are not guaranteed at normal times, let alone now.

However, you paid for a service that you didn't receive, ie. 'not as described'. So you could rechnically open a return request when the goods arrive, for 'not as described'.  That will force the seller to either supply an Ebay returns label (prepaid and tracked), or to refund in full without the need for return.

Ebay don't get involved with postage disputes.

I assume this was business seller, if so you can return as change of mind, you pay return tracked postage,

check listing for details.

There is no ebay case for what you describe.
