Buyer protection if using own courier?

Hi I just wanted to know if you get buyer protection when using your own courier? I've won an expensive item. The delivery charges from seller are double what I can get from Parcelforce.

I've told him I'm unhappy to pay double delivery charges and he's happy for me to use my own and pay for my own insurance.

My concern is if the seller doesn't arrange delivery it am I still covered by Ebay and PayPal buyer protection.?

Zero protection if you arrange for a third party to collect your item

If the item was advertised with a postage option to begin with and you had asked the seller prior to committing to purchasing the item as to whether or not he or she would be prepared to send the item via your preferred courier given that the postage costs were cheaper then if the seller had revised the listing and added your preferred courier as a postage option that you could select at checkout then you would not lose your buyer protection.  If, however, the item was a Collection In Person Only item and you tried to arrange for a courier to collect the item on your behalf then you would be voiding your eBay Buyer Protection by doing so, as with any item that is advertised as Collection In Person Only the onus is on the person who purchased the item to collect it in person and inspect the item thoroughly so as to ensure that he or she was happy with the item before agreeing to go ahead with the sale.  At that point if you decided not to proceed with the sale you could just tell the seller that you'd changed your mind and either keep the cash if paying in hard cash, or agree for the seller to cancel the sale and refund your payment if you paid via PayPal.

Although eBay do tend to big up their "We guarantee you get the item you wanted, or your money back" there are times when eBay will not extend Buyer Protection to certain items sold on the site.  One such item is vehicles - these are not covered in any way by the eBay Money Back Guarantee.  eBay can often be pretty awkward if a buyer purchases a Collection In Person Only item and subsequently opens an Item Not As Described case in relation to the matter, as they'll often say something along the lines of "You had adequate chance to inspect the item in person before deciding to accept it", in which case this is one of the few cases whereby an Item Not As Described case may actually end up being decided in the seller's favour.

At the end of the day if you're purchasing a Collection In Person Only item the best option is to elect to pay in cash for the item and collect it yourself, as opposed to allowing somebody else to collect the item for you.  What your courier deems to be acceptable may differ wildly from your own views as to what is and is not acceptable, hence the reason why it's not a good idea to allow somebody else to collect your own items for you.  If the item was damaged in transit when the item was being transported to you via your own courier - or even if you collected the item yourself and it got damaged on the journey home - then you would be unable to open an Item Not As Described case relating to damage in transit, which you would be able to do if the seller was offering postage and despatched the item via a courier who subsequently ended up damaging the item whilst it was in transit to you.

I bid item from eBay but I don’t know £252
