My question, if anyone kind enough to explain.
We,ve had a store for many years on ebay with a steady decline over the last 12-24 months even after discounts and promoting...
Ebays sales for many specific components we sell, actually hasn't even dropped much overall over the last 24 month period.
PLUS, on ebay's "Product Research" for specific items,
it shows 10% of sellers account for 90%! of sales for this item/category.
What is their secret to get 90% of the sales?
Is it the seller being favoured or is it the listing?
Is it because quantity of items they have listed in that range? (Which means 90% isn'tt the figure to judge by, as more lines will interpret higher percent)
Promoted listings..?
The question still baffles many, if sales on ebay research have not been effected on their graphs , who is getting the sales if so many sellers complaining of drop?

I think that a lot of it is simply that once you get traction, you stay higher in the search rankings.
So literally, the more you more you sell, the more viewable your listing is, which in turn means that your more likely to sell.
I have a couple of listings on another account with hundreds of sales and they are both virtually always first in search without having to promote them.
Obviously price does come into it, but as long as your not way out, you will stay at the top.
The other side of it, is sheer volume of listings. The bigger sellers obviously have more listings, which in turn means more visibility, which means more sales.....

As @therenewalworkshopltd Thats is my understanding, check out the Ebay UK business channel YouTube, for the official best practices
Sales history is the key, however i one of the above mentioned YT videos sellers were advised to refresh/Sell Similar if the Sales History drops off for no reason

Question from sellers is from 19 minutes, the gent had a fall in a best seller, hope it helps
Might be newer advice but this specifcally deals with slow sales of best sellers.

We had significant quantity of "sold" on 50% of our listings but still we lost all traction, sales dried up, views dropped to a trickle.
We have now ended and relisted all listings but have sold more on v on 10 listings in last 7 days than with 1000 listings on here in same period.
We have also just sold 12 pallets of stock for 99p bid!

Im under 10k feedback on my business acct and to see posts like yours and one frrom @typo_lee with 10's of thousands, FB and seasoned sellers, know what your doing, it is concerning
If it helps I dropped my coupons and everything went up with a sale event ran for the Ebay suggested time, this ended and everything crashed, I decided to end my minimal PL standard for a yearly refresh (an Ebay best practice) and it crashed some more, restarted coupons after a 3 week break on some inventory and nothing. No coupon sales on 1k of inventory, no uptake on offers sent and this should be a busier time of year for us.
In short I cant figure it out, my impressions organic were 58K for the Sunday 13th , 2 weeks later running no PL organic were 12k, over 40k down on organic, however my listing views have increased Sunday 13th with a selling tool 'sale' and PL standard 81 views, 27th with only 12k impressions, no PL and no Selling tools, eg coupons, markdown, coupons 160 views, doubled,
The important bit 8 sales on the 13th and 1 sale 27th, dire
I know another seller has been tinkering and had simlar results to me, will add the stats supplied imo were already poor performance
The only thing that did work was a sale event, say worked, made some headway in a time of poor performance. Check your traffic stats, see if anything works for you?
Will add from 23/25 April I did all the best practices to improve sales and did so aggressively, I know in the past from experience this has brought business, 25to27th 1 sale a day
Its grim

As you say I think we are experienced enough to know there is something seriously wrong. I have decided that its the fact buyers have left the ebay platform and shop elsewhere online and also the dire economy. Thank God we do sell on other platforms as we would be well and truly under by now. This month our listing views are down 35% compared to March and sales are on the floor.

Hello op. As far as I can see it’s obviously the listings that make eBay the most money.
Imagine if you were mr eBay.! Surely you would set your business up to make the most profit possible.
Ebay will never listen to sellers unless the bottom line is being questioned by the shareholders 😤
