What's The Point In Placing Feedback?

What's the point of placing any feedback at all on eBay when eBay removes the Negative ones left for bad sellers straight after I place them? I have been with eBay for over 20yrs and have always given feedback but now I don't think I will bother in the future because when I get a bad seller and place a Negative eBay removes it almost straight away with NO explanation leaving a bad seller with more Positive to Negative ratio than he deserves, this is completely against the Feedback Principle! So maybe it's time to say no  to Feedback ALTOGETHER?

ebay have quite a long list of reasons why they might remove feedback (generally if requested by the seller)

If you don't leave feedback Ebay will leave it for you, as there is an auto feedback in place now.

If you see something like "Order completed successfully – tracked and on time" that is an auto feedback, and can only be a positive.

Might I ask what was the problem that made you leave bad feedback?

There are some problems that eBay promise to protect sellers against, things like:

- item gets lost in the post, but the seller bought the postage through eBay.

- buyer uses bad language in the post.

- something went wrong at eBay's end that caused the problem (like if the seller only had one item, and eBay accidentally let 2 people buy it).

- buyer misunderstood the listing or asked for something they shouldn't have asked for (like "please don't send it to the address it says, send it to a different address.")

- buyer was on the seller's blocked list, and found a way to buy the item or got a friend to buy it for them.

I know that some sellers seem to be able to get any bad feedback removed, and it's really annoying, but often there's a simple explanation that the buyer didn't know about.  If you can work out why eBay are removing your bad feedback, you might be able to stop it happening next time.

So you get a BAD seller and you place Negative Feedback he asks for it to be removed and it is what's the point of Feedback at all, and don't forget I am speaking as somebody with over 20 years experience of Feedback

What did you write?  There are feedback rules to follow.

Mention anything about a refund,  case or any eBay involvement and the seller can ask eBay to have that feedback removed.

Negative feedback can be left to explain an unsatisfactory transaction, but you have to know how to phrase it,  for that feedback to remain.

Looking at some of the feedback you have left for sellers in the past, I'd guess that you may have overstepped the boundaries of what eBay will allow. I can understand your frustration if a seller says they're using Royal Mail and then sends it by the courier which has blocked your address.  But - surprisingly - using a different courier doesn't actually seem to be against the rules.  It probably SHOULD be, but I don't think it is.

A copy of my feedback placed before being deleted.

"Item listed with Royal Mail delivery and was confirmed by at the time of

purchase as EVRI has been used instead on several previous purchase on

eBay and have not arrived so | wont use EVRI, this seller instead on using

Royal Mail as listed and against my instructions used EVRI, it still has not

arrived although it's been out for delivery every day for the last 6 days and

even though | cancelled the purchase as soon as it was sent to EVRI!"

I have very bad problems with EVRI and they do NOT deliver,  this sell broke the eBay Shipping Policy and has put me to great inconvenience and have had to order from another seller that will stick to the eBay Shipping Policy!  Deserves a Positive Feedback Does he?

I get the frustration - but rules is rules.

If there's a reason in there a seller could use to get negative feedback removed - they'll at least try!

You are better off keeping it vague and saying something like 'unhappy with the transaction' - at least its unlikely to be removed.

I have no idea what your 20 years of experience of feedback has to do with anything unfortunately. Rules change over time, I've given you a link to the feedback policy.

"Order completed successfully – tracked and on time"

That would all be made up then wouldn't it!

So AGAIN what's the point?

They may well have claimed removal under either of the following

We remove neutral/negative feedback when the buyer is referencing:

  • A delivery issue where tracking shows us that the delivery or handling time expectations were met

We remove neutral/negative feedback when we can see that:

  • The buyer asked to cancel after placing their order

I'm not saying any of it is right - but that's how they may be getting it removed.

Automated feedback is only left IF

  • Tracking shows the item was delivered on time
  • The buyer hasn’t left feedback yet
  • The buyer hasn't reported an issue or opened a return on their order

So as far as ebay knows - the statement would indeed be true. You can, within the allowed timeframe overwrite the automated feedback with your own though. I genuinely don't see the issue with automated feedback.

In favour of BAD sellers!

I have already read the eBay Shipping Policy, thanks!

What's The Point In Placing Feedback?

Through my experience, trying to interact with eBay is a complete waste of time, they are too big to be bothered with me!

And talking about a complete waste of time I will now draw a line under this Negative experience and despatch it to the bin, it was only done to express my frustration of having a few genuine Negative feedbacks in a row which with 20yrs experience buying and selling with eBay seemed to me to be unacceptable.

So if this is  the New eBay maybe the answer would be to use Onbuy, eBid, Etsy & Gumtree more eBay less and not to leave feedback!

Bye.

What's The Point In Placing Feedback?

There was a lot of question marks in your original message and you posted on a business forum. Members here like to answer questions and give opinions when asked (Let's call it...feedback!), your not always going to get the feedback you want or expect BUT it is generally worth listening.

There are many reasons why feedback might be removed by an E-bay staff member and they do not do it lightly. It may be that the buyer has a history of using negative feedback incorrectly, using it to try and get discounts or refunds, it may be a straight up lie, it might be against E-bays feedback policies. As a seller who has on occasions had negatives removed (and on other occasions not), I can guarantee you it isn't a simple case of just asking. You have to give Customer Services a very good case as to why it should be taken off.

I wonder if the seller was a private seller using Simple Delivery?  It seems from reading comments on the seller central board that sellers are sometimes choosing a service e.g Royal Mail but when a purchase is made they are sent an Evri label, or the other way around.  They then have to either use that label or purchase and pay for a different label.  Unsurprisingly there seems to be some unhappiness as it seems Simple Delivery has simply overridden their selected postage method.  It would explain why the OPs feedback left regarding delivery method would be automatically removed by eBay.  This may also have happened with other feedback left if it was left for the same reason.

I just had an experience with what I’d call a bad seller but what’s the point in leaving neg feedback seeing as they have LOADS and they’re still allowed to sell and doing the same thing as all their neg feedback says they do ie never send item

The usual complaint on here is unfair negative feedback NOT being removed by ebay.

As a general rule ebay does not remove negative feedback unless it infringes something in the feedback policy linked to by another commenter.

Best advice is to contact ebay and ask them why they keep removing your feedback.
