New returns policy

Received a mail from eBay today advising, that Sellers listing in  Parts & Accessories categories are soon to become responsible for 50% of return postage if the buyer changes their mind or as eBay describe it a "remorse purchase"

eBay will pay the other 50% somewhat predictably only if the label is bought through them !

Is it just me that thinks this is wrong and will lead to more returns , it seems incredible that the seller should be responsible for the cost of someone's indecisions.

Re: New returns policy

Why don't they drop the whole idea of Free returns entirely?

So a customer will correctly check what they are buying so they don't incur a return charge?

Because surely sellers will now just take this extra charge out of the customers refund instead?

Currently sellers can choose whether to offer free (remorse) returns or not. Sellers are always responsible for covering the return cost if a return request is opened for an INAD reason.

When a remorse return is opened the seller can only make a deduction from the buyer's refund if the item is returned used or damaged. eBay has guidelines for how much can be deducted:

eBay also states:

"Sellers may only deduct an amount from the buyer's refund in order to recover lost value when an item is returned used, altered or damaged. Sellers may not use this protection to recoup market losses on items returned in the same condition or recoup return postage and/or restocking costs."

As per eBay's seller protections abuse policy sellers who abuse the above protection lose their eligibility to use it.

Something else to bear in mind is that the buyer can appeal a partial refund made under the above seller protection and selling fees are not credited when a seller deducts an amount from the buyer's refund.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Re: New returns policy

Crazy how Ebay are trying so hard to push business sellers out.

Then the only other option would be to raise prices  on items to make the profit from a legit buyers instead so they cover the others.
