Item return

I've been selling on Ebay for many years but have never had a buyer refuse to accept a full replacement of an item that he wanted to return citing the "does not meet description " excuse when in fact the item exactly met the description , being that the item(s) were up to 40 years old ,a fact the buyer is aware of I find it unbelievable that he would not only decline full and free replacement and in addition a partial refund on an item that was of low value anyway, I have of course reported the buyer for misusing the returns process, anyone else had a similar experience?

An item which is 40 years old will have expected wear and tear. It doesn't matter if you have described every detail, if the buyer does not feel that it is exactly as described then they can open a return.

Just because they don't want a replacement doesn't mean that they have abused the system. It may be once bitten..

As a business seller, these things happen and you have only lost the cost of the return postage. These things happen. Just move on.

As a Business Seller do you know you have the option to refund the Item Cost but not the Postage?

As @cobwebcottage  mentions condition description can seem quite subjective for a 40yr item though, so I can understand if you chose not to do this.

Refusing a replacement, makes it sound as if the Buyer changed their mind and didn't want to pay return postage for this low value item. All you can do is block them and forget about it as being minor in the grand scheme of things.

Item return

Yes a few I’m sure it’s because I sell items which are usually replacements for broken items

I think it’s too easy to then return the broken or damaged item that they wanted to replace and claim it was the one you sent in which case they wouldn’t need another replacement as they now have their free item. Job done

these are in the minority but I’m sure there are people who do this  although of course hard to prove

You can report the buyer for misusing the MBG at https://spd.ebay.co.uk/RBASellerHub

Supposedly, if the buyer does it too often, eBay will take action.  Also, supposedly, you will get a refund for the return label.  I've never had a refund when I've reported buyers, but I believe others have.
