My items are on 5 day shipping, 2nd class post.
I've just sold an item where the buyer has been promised by eBay it will arrive on December 28th...
Now, even if you count today towards the 5 shipping days, that means it'll be the 27th before my 'window' runs out. And next day delivery for second class at this time of year? Considering the last posting date for 2nd class to arrive by Christmas was yesterday, a whole 5 posting days before the last delivery, that seems wildly optimistic. I'd be surprised if an item posted 2nd on the 27th of December arrived this year, never mind the next day.

I bought an item today (2nd Class) and, according to eBay, it's going to be delivered by the 27th.
You've been granted an extra day over my seller!

Delivery times are based on average dispatches not what you have set.
if you never take 5 days but have it selected eBay will ignore this and lower it to your average. Their was an update for this an while ago that people got angry at ebay for but they never reverted the change

Only because your seller foolishly rushed to post office or bought a label today, enabling ebay to reduce his FDD even though he is doing his best to please you as a buyer.
The other seller isn't so obliging so gets an extra day due to his worse Historic Performance.

You're wrong, there's nothing wrong with it, it's working as intended due to dynamic delivery estimates based on a number of factors. We can forward it as feedback to 'the team' but the delivery estimates are perfect so ner ner ner ner ner!
Say this enough times and you may also start to believe it.

I post same day for orders placed before 4pm via Royal Mail Tracked 24 and eBay's delivery estimates are showing as 27th December.
So far have had the worst December sales on eBay in 20 years. Any hope of some late pre Christmas gift sales have now disappeared !
At least Amazon seem to be sensible and working to Royal Mail guidelines so hopefully all may not be lost !!

I tried to change a few listings on my other account to fast dispatch and delivery service to see if I could scrape together a few more sales for people who wanted stuff in time for xmas.
On Wednesday morning, I set about a dozen listings from 2 day dispatch and 48 hour post to SAME DAY dispatch and 24 hour post.
When I look at the listings, it said: Estimated between Fri, 27 Dec and Thu, 2 Jan
So sometimes they tell the customer to expect stuff before you've even dispatched it, but when you offer next day delivery, ebay tells them it will take 10 days!?

I buy something it say delivery Friday, it arrives Wednesday, or if it says Wednesday it arrives Friday, its a pain when you have to stay in.
Not fit for purpose, complete waste of time for both buyer and seller.

I added 1st class as an upgrade a few days ago to get a few extra sales, but the EDDs were exactly the same for 2nd class and RM24. Absolutely no incentive for the buyer to pay extra to get it quicker.
I brought this up on last week's weekly chat too (IE 9 days ago). Of course it's been sent to 'the team' but I've not heard anything back, nor will I, probably.

I've had an item last week that had been posted by the seller (accepted at the depot, not just label printed) and was being sent by Tracked 48
eBays estimated delivery date? 6 days after posting
At least that is more realistic, if a little over the top!

I use a random password generator page for some passwords
Think eBay must use a Random EDD generator app

Update on my item purchased on the 19th, EDD the 27th.
It arrived today, the 20th.
You're right @theelench , the seller has upgraded it to 1st Class even though the listing states 2nd. I have purchased from them before, and will do so again - but next time I'll send a note to say not to sweat the EDD, I'm not in a hurry, it'll arrive eventually.
However, pretty impressive performance by RM for ordinary 1st Class. I reckon a lot less cards are being sent and, those that are, went 2nd Class earlier in the month. It's only fools like me that have to send them 1st because they were just too lazy to write them earlier in the month. I nearly had a fit when the PO person told me how much two books of 1st Class stamps were going to cost.

Which is, of course, exactly why it is "working as intended" -- ebay skimmed a couple more pennies off the postage charge, the seller making-up the difference from their pocket.
All this hand-wringing by ebay over 'late deliveries' is a total charade designed solely to line ebay's pockets.
I mentioned earlier in the thread my latest sale on another site where they don't give any EDD at all. I sent it RM 2nd Class as I always do, it was posted on 16/12 and arrived 18/12 Kent to Wiltshire. I posted it just as quickly as always, day after purchase and gave the buyer a small discount on the cost because ebid doesn't skim any of the postal charge. RM even did better than their 2-3 day delivery estimate just before Christmas.
That's what I call GOOD customer service all round and why I've sold 28 items there this year instead of a miserable 4 items on ebay.
That's one of the main reasons I won't be selling on ebay in the future.

Put my eBay shop on time away yesterday.
Buyer bought just before this using the parcel force 24 option. Sent a simple but blunt message
"Upgrade postage" . Could not find minus 24 option on PF website.
Website will remain open throughout and continues to get sales with understanding customers
and no EDDs

You might want to reach out to the buyer and clarify their request regarding the "upgrade postage." It’s possible they’re looking for expedited shipping, but since your shop is on time away, you could explain any limitations or offer an alternative. Also, double-check the ParcelForce options for any express services. Keeping communication clear and professional usually helps in situations like this. Good luck with the rest of your sales!

That's exactly what I've found on the other site where I have about 200 items listed as Run Until Sold and never put them on 'Holiday', I don't need to. It's ONLY on ebay that some buyers are said to expect next-day delivery as the norm and without the extra fee that they'd pay on amazon..
On ebid it seems all my buyers are quite happy to pay the price I ask for an item, are quite happy with Next Day dispatch by RM 2nd Class post and have enough brain cells to understand their item might get to them a little late, especially just before Christmas.
If they'd like combined postage or a quicker postal service they ask, Politely, which makes it far easier for me to try to be helpful to them and their needs.
Ebays demands and harassment, some of its buyers feeling of entitlement and the rudeness and bullying they will use to try getting their way make ebay the outstandingly horrible selling experience that so many find it these days.

Buyer bought before time away.
Was just really a tongue in cheek post not to be taken seriously
22-12-2024 12:16 PM
Well I was just asked if I could guarantee next day delivery for Tuesday if they placed the order tomorrow. But they didn't want to pay for special, or even 1st class.
25-12-2024 12:40 PM
Got one on the 23rd paid late. Probably expecting it to be sent out the 24th? Second class ?? For a Christmas present !!
it wouldn’t have got there anyway.
eBay are telling me that it’s late dispatch. And to send it today. Like how am I supposed to send it today???
next collection for me will be the 27th.

Cards sold today and will be posted tomorrow by Royal Mail second class. Ebays estimated delivery 2nd - 3rd January, so apparently New Years Day is a working day. Looks like more INRs coming.
