Re: Is Ebay Now The Unhappiest Eccomerce Platform For Sellers

After 25 years a business seller on eBay it finally seems like it is coming to an end. For sure eBay are only concerned with their profits and not with our livelihoods! My sales have dropped from many thousands a years to just £16 last week. They always find ways to get more money out of us but sales are ever shrinking.

Re: Is Ebay Now The Unhappiest Eccomerce Platform For Sellers

Are the other selling platforms any better - Vinted, Etsy etc? Ive been selling for over 20 years on Ebay but have not tried anywhere else as I've also got a bricks and mortar shop. I understand the fees on Etsy are very high and prices for stuff are very low on Vinted.

I think the cost of living crisis has really kicked in and disposable incomes have shrunk.  If the Govt charge pay per mile in the budget that will be the end for lots of businesses.....

The Free Selling for Private Buyers and the new Buyer Facing Fee coming in next year are the final nails in the coffin for Ebay.

My GF sells on Vinted, i asked her why not on here, says ebay is a pain and Vinted is busy, so why pick up pennies when you can pick up pounds.

I expect October to be a very poor month following the advent of fee free selling.

Re: Is Ebay Now The Unhappiest Eccomerce Platform For Sellers

I've just gone on to one of my eBay shops

logged into a different account when you put an item in the basket and go to pay it actually discourages you and tells you to check out other items I mean wow

And they have changed the wording on the photos where you drag and drop so I expect another two weeks of terrible sales

Thank you eBay it's well worth the fees for you to tell buyers to buy elsewhere

It makes you proud to be a business on eBay  😂😂😂😂

What a terrible unhappy place when the platform tells buyers to check out other sellers at the check out when they r about to buy

Honestly you couldn't make this up

And to make it worse that's not the price it's actually £6.74

I mean wow

Apart from the false private sellers, this is my next biggest gripe. The time you have to put into a listing to get noticed, the money you may have put into PL and then just as you're about to get a sale they ask you to consider someone else. It's like walking down the aisle on your wedding day and then someone pops up and shows your future wife other men to consider before saying I do 🤣

You're right you couldn't make it up!!  It is shocking what ebay are doing with pushing their advertising of other sellers, I didn't realise that it was right up to when you are about to pay - that is disgraceful, and worse still if you are paying - regardless of how small a fee - a promotional fee to ebay.

A lot of the high promoting sellers are these multi seller / multi listing Chinese sellers, who have cheap postage and cheaper products - how to compete - that is the question????

@mwdirect_uk I have just noticed from that image (and on ads on my own listings) that under each suggested listing it details whether the seller is Business or Private.
I know it's not much but it may sway some purchases.

Re: Is Ebay Now The Unhappiest Eccomerce Platform For Sellers

@bojangled , I appreciate your optimism - rare on these boards - but, if it does sway the sale, which way will it sway it?

Some people may prefer to buy from a private seller, they think it's an 'honest' sale, helping out the little man who's just trying to find a few coppers to buy the kids' Xmas presents - not a nasty profit-grabbing business seller.  More importantly,  the private seller's item will probably be cheaper because they're paying no fees.

Also, I don't think buyers know the difference between business and private, and nor do they care.  They have the eBay MBG, which means a refund is assured no matter what the seller's status is.

Ok..hands up when i rarely buy it is usually from a private seller.

Especially when i am buying jewellery to add to my collection  ...comparable items are usually very much cheaper from a private seller.

In view of everything thats happening on the site lately i am making a conscious effort to support business sellers more even if it will cost me more.

@the-nutwood-collection

My immediate response to myself after posting was exactly yours, which way will that sway!

Re optimism, felt thoroughly beaten and down about this fee nonsense earlier in the week, but as I have often 'preached' on these boards 'Who Moved My Cheese?' is a great read at times like this.

Re: Is Ebay Now The Unhappiest Eccomerce Platform For Sellers

Same here, but apart from all sales going down over this year, recently when it should be slightly better (at this period of the year), it's getting worse.  Few days ago they done something again with search and all that promotional rubbish and our sales went down 80% over the last couple of days, despite paying extra for promo.  Something is not right in here, but if I look at our listings which looks terrible with 100's offers from other sellers, which putting buyers off and all those flashy banners which telling you spend more on fees, spend more on promotions, pay us 10-20% more and maybe we will rewarded in 1% lift in sales, honestly enough is enough, so many years on ebay and they treat small business sellers like they simply don't want them anymore, buyer experience is shocking, all my friends which have ebay shops are openning their own websites to save on crazy ebay fees and to be fair all buyers which want cheap stuff shop on Temu, or Aliexpress and the rest on Amazon. Ebay is so dead...
