Impressions broken again??

Can you please check if there is another problem with impressions? Another counting glitch? These stats can not be correct. Organic impressions promoted views down to under 3000 views today at time of writing. This time last week almost 73000 views. Please help.  dave@ebay kat@ebay

Re: Impressions broken again??

dave@ebay are eBay even going to address this issue? We need some kind of announcement as this is beyond frustrating. Completely unfair to us sellers who have worked hard to build up a business, only to have it taken away from us by eBay's incompetence!

At my wit's end now, enough is enough!

Re: Impressions broken again??

Yes I'm the same, 1 sale yesterday out of 2500 listed.  My shop as not recovered from the 18th July and nether have my impressions so I've now had a month of this.  Can't see this changing now looks like the new normal for me.

Re: Impressions broken again??

I'm officially as done as I can be.  I'm down to about 70 listings from 750 earlier in the week, they can run their course until my shop ends in a week or two.   I received 31p in my bank yesterday.  Usually this time of year it's closer to £800.  Absolutely shameful what eBay and their reps have done, or have not in the case of the reps.

Last winter was bad enough with the 'Promised we will protect you' against INRs and did not - that cost me about £35,000 in sales.  Then the March episode of the new pay to play promoted dynamic costing me approx £10,000 in sales until it was worked out what was causing the issue and now since 4th July lost - well everything.  Business is gone, reputation is gone, 95% of listings gone.  Stress levels through the roof and NOT ONE SINGLE WORD from eBay as to what is happening.  Customer support lying through their teeth or basically not knowing what is going on.  Countless hours of hoop jumping to no avail and still no meaningful answers from eBay, absolutely disgusting in the strongest possible terms.  People should be given the P45s en mass for this they really should.

So I'm done, I really hope it all picks up for you and you get to live your dreams but if this last 10 months is anything to go by live them away from eBay.  Some nice 'negative' stories running in the press recently regarding selling platforms.  I think eBay will be next.  Good luck to all, some great characters on here.  You deserve much much better than these clowns have afforded you.  Kind regards.

Re: Impressions broken again??

Me too! My business Has Gone from £10k to £2k a month since January, each week contacting customer service asking WHY? (QUITE SIMPLE NO ONE CAN FIND WHAT  THEY ARE ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR)

Well today i got a reply.......... Its a Classic hoping i am keeping well during the pandemic????

First of all, please accept my humble gratitude for your tenured association and unwavering trust in us.

We are blessed with loyal and supportive member like you to become a well-known name in the global community of e-commerce.

Hope you and your family are doing well in this Pandemic! Do take care of yourself.

Please allow me to share that I have searched for a few random products using different keywords and they are all appearing pretty well. We definitely want your business here on eBay to be healthy and profitable, because that’s how our business stays healthy and profitable. There is no reason at all to put any limits on your account or hide your listings in search. You can keep a watch on a few sample listings for which the sales are low and then search for them. If you find any of your listings not search-able, please immediately get back to us and we will look into this immediately.

As for drop in Sales, there might be multiple reasons. As long as the items are coming up in the search results, there are no issues. You can check with competitors and selling the items that buyer are looking for.

I have reviewed your account and appreciate your services being rendered to your buyers. Your great services reflect how good a seller you have been. You feedback and your eBay Top-rated seller status is great. I did not find any such thing why your sales should be low.

I would like to share that there are a lot of factors that can contribute to a drop in sales, but it can generally be attributed to 2 issues:

1)Either the market has slowed down in your category, meaning buyers aren’t buying items from anyone,

2)or customers are buying items from other sellers.

It’s important to know which of these reasons is impacting your business. There are some relatively simple ways to figure this out. Let me show you some marketplace research methods you can use.

You can follow these simple steps:

1. Identify your listings for which the sales are dropped

2. Search for similar listings from competitors.

3. Add 2-3 listings (from the competitors) in your watch list and you can check their sales history on the listings for a week or any period of time to see if there is recent increase in sales.

If it's your sales only going down, there might be possibility that other sellers are more successful in capturing buyers' attention with item price. postage, dispatch time etc.

You can make the required changes accordingly and can boost the sales.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to get back to us and wish you the best of selling on eBay.

Meanwhile thanks for your kind patience and underrating in this matter. Thank you for your patience. I trust this information is helpful and wish you all the best on eBay in the future. For further assistance, please feel free to get back to us, we will be more than happy to assist you.

Kind regards,
...............

Re: Impressions broken again??

Gotta love the old "the market has slowed down in your category" blag from customer support. If they bothered to read these threads they would see the diverse range of users who sell from literally every possible category on the platform.

I am pretty much done now, eBay has killed me off to the no point it's not even worth listing new stuff. Keep hoping the "sell similar" trick will work though it doesn't. Thanks, eBay!

In good news I got emailed my ticket for the business show in Manchester lol, anyone going to this? Would they answer these questions more honestly face to face?

Re: Impressions broken again??

I'm going, got a one to one meeting on how to improve my business at 9:20am so before anything starts, plan on asking about this, the lack of updates on reporting (fakes and unregistered business), if the 3 months dead listings is actually true and just to see if they can point me in any positive directions. My sales arent terrible, the impressions killed me for those 2 weeks but then I ran a promo (always planned on it) and now its ended I'm still doing decent, not great but enough.

I also hope there is an open Q&A part where we can ask some of the speakers questions, if not then in the 'networking' time I will try and hunt somebody out as I know the complaints I have put in about numerous faults on eBay (which could be solved easily) have either been ignored or not passed high enough.

If I find anything good out I will update after the event.

Re: Impressions broken again??

I posted this on the No Sales thread.

"Just browsing and found a 'private' seller with multiple new items listed.   Sales yesterday, £250 !    60 +   feedback in the past month.   Even their user name implies that they are a business."

This also needs addressing.   All these 'private' sellers being offered free listings, and swerving all selling regulations.

Re: Impressions broken again??

So i've been discovering this too. Used the terapeak thing and found a seller selling the same. Only been going for a few weeks and they were selling tonnes a day of just 1 item, yet it's almost identical, i checked specifics, title etc everything.

So my theory, is a new account has no data attached to it.  If you list 1 item and you get a sale failrly quickly, the sell through rate to the amount of impressions, would likely be massive as you're not likely to get as many impressions as you would on your old account, as thats established.

So then my thought is the algorithm is taught to recognise account where the click through and conversion rate is better and prioritise, so if you've only just listed 1 item, that will be a good figure.

So i've open up a new business account and I am testing this theory. I listed 1 item, it's only had 6 views but customer bought 4 of them. It meant my conversion rate was like 80odd %. I've now added 1 more listing and that too sold in less than 24 hours and had more clicks. It only equates to £8 which I now have to wait until September to get as it's a new account. however this is more than I have taken on my established account over the entire weekend.

I mean who knows but I decided it was worth a try, nothing to lose when it's as broken as it is.

I think you might be on to something, will be interesting to see your results after a few days.

If this theory is correct then suddenly it makes total sense why the Chinese sellers list the exact same item, multiple times, accross multiple ebay ID's & keep opeing new ID's when the old one has too many negatives.

They use same picture & slightly change the title & price to avoid the stupid AI detection.

Maybe this is an example of "what acctually works on ebay" ? so if you follow what the Chinese do , your items will appear in search & acctually sell ? instead of just gathering useless impressions dust you pay for.

Maybe we all should follow suit & do the exact same ?? as ebay takes not action against them even if reported numerous times, but the opposite they promote them!

Today's example:

If anyone noticed the latest ebay "improvement feature" that appeared on your main gallery picture, the "Find similar" box  ?

Screen Shot 2023-08-21 at 15.32.44.png

When clicked on that it takes you to a page called Sponsored "Visually similar item":

Screen Shot 2023-08-21 at 15.32.17.png

Then I was presented with a shower of identical items listed via multiple Chinese ID's , same item, same picture, slightly changed price & title:

Re: Impressions broken again??

Yes I saw exactly the same. When I listed on my new account I changed the listing title it think too and altered a couple of specifics.

Also I remembered someone in this thread actually was told to start a new account. I think it was questionned by Dave and someone definitely said they shouldn't be telling us to start a new account.

Who knows, Ill update once it's been running a bit.

I don't think it's possible. I'm sure I read somewhere that there's some Chinese legality on ip's etc that basically means that no Chinese seller can be really be banned as there's nothing to stop them opening up as many id's as they want. And we can all see the result of that.

Re: Impressions broken again??

I've actually just looked at the find similar items that all look the same.

Yes, same products, different accounts, the exact same addresses. Just slight variations in the listing titles.

Re: Impressions broken again??

Update! We should not worry this drop in impressions from the 18th of July is just in ALL our imaginations and the so-called testing as we were told by dave@ebay never took place and he is giving us false information. Well, this is according to the customer service on chat today!.  Can't even make this stuff up at this point its beyond a joke. Does NO ONE at this company take any form of responsibility for anything while people are losing everything they have worked for over the years?

Re: Impressions broken again??

@tothemoonresales I doubt very much that ebay will take ANY kind of responsiblity for ANY of this - because if they do, they will need to compensate us for our losses - and that wont happen - the shareholders will do one if they lose tons of money over a programming mess up! So they would prefer to gaslight us all instead.

Yeah, not falling for it ebay.

Not for one minute!

Wont be long now and we'll all be signing off for good ...

Remind me again - what are listing fees for?

Re: Impressions broken again??

So my impressions have dropped off a cliff again yesterday and today even though I'm promoting most of my stock and doing all the usual stuff that everyone suggests on here. They were not great before and have never recovered since this fiasco started that they won't own up to.  Even pay to play is not working for me unless I think I give them 50% and above of what I earn, well thats not gonna happen.  I'd rather go sell it all at the car boot than sell it on here now. Makes no difference whatsover what I do on here now, none of it brings any sales in.

Exactly the same here.

There is a youtube video of someone who experiemented with 100% promotions for a week & it made no difference at all to his sales.  He got lots of impressions, mostly "off site" but the page views & sales stayed  exactly the same when he only used 2% promotion.

I was thinking the same thing I might start selling rather than buying the car boots from next season! Totally agree with you nothing works no matter what you try!

I started a new campaign yesterday, currently promoted impressions looking very low again, too early to say but I'll keep an eye on it and post again in a day or two, things have gone very bad sales wise but impressions had fully recovered for me from the 'testing' last month, hmm..
