I accept counter-offer - buyer isn't notified. New glitch?

So I watched an item. A seller sent me an offer with the option to counter. I countered. Then heard nothing back. I was just paying for some other purchases when I noticed my basket was still showing as having an unpaid item. The seller had accepted my counter offer. When I went to my basket there was a warning saying, the item is not yours until you pay. Fair enough, however, there was no email notification that the seller had accepted my offer and the item did not show up as unpaid in my purchase history (where  accepted offers used to go). I don't tend to look at that little basket notification in the top right corner which was the ONLY indication that I had got the item.

Unless this is a one-off weirdness, this is rubbish. As a seller, I have had some slow payers of late where I have accepted counter-offers. I wonder if this is connected. Has anyone else had experience of this?

As a buyer, I have made offers before then not received any message saying it had been accepted by the seller so later in the day I randomly click on it to check and BINGO, I have an item to pay for. So yes, absolutely this is probably why it is taking some buyers a while to pay. Might be worth messaging them with a little 'Thank you for your offer, I have accepted it. Please make payment and we will get your item carefully packed and dispatched. etc.'

It's been like this for months for me. When I win items at auction or a seller accepts my offer, I don't get notified at all.

The whole system for auction wins and offer acceptance is pretty rubbish.

It seems stuck between two systems:

- System 1.   eBay takes immediate payment from the buyer, without showing the seller's postage options, leading to everything being paid for at standard rate.  Then buyers who need the item urgently either cancel when they see the delivery estimate, or there's a long back-and-forth with the seller trying to sort out how to pay for express delivery.

- System 2. eBay doesn't tell the buyer about the offer/bid being successful, and the buyer ends up with an unpaid item strike or the seller has to chase for payment.

eBay's communication is dreadful in both cases.

Blimey... thanks for your responses.

I had noticed some buyers were slow to pay and I probably had a few more non-payers but I just put it down to cost of living etc.  Like I say, I only noticed when I was the buyer.

I have a pro-trader call on Monday and will report this. It is mental that ebay's communication is so poor it can't send the correct notifications for payment even after a deal is made.

I got a rather stroppy message from a seller a few weeks ago. I'd put a bid on something, not really expecting to win, with 5 days left. I did indeed win it and I'd forgotten all about it and I got no email from eBay to say I'd won it. Two days past the end date the seller was asking me why I hadn't paid, and eBay were nagging me to pay.

I don't log in to my buying account very often but now I find I have to, because eBay don't communicate with me.

I did ask on the weekly chat a couple of months but got the usual generic 'clear your cache and cookies, check your spam folder' non-answer.
