GSP item returned to me (Seller) due to export issue

Hello all,

So I sent an item to the States via GSP before Christmas, it took a while to actually get scanned at Lichfield by which time I had already refunded the buyer feeling it had been lost in the post.

Anyway, and typically, the next day it scanned in and started the process of being shipped to USA.

It got to Container assignment when it then changed to return to sender.

I believed this was as I had fully refunded the buyer, however after receiving it today (via DHL) untouched, it had a sticker on each side stating:

"These commodities, technology or software were exported from the United Kingdom in accordance with the Export Control Organization (ECO) Diversion contrary to HMRC and UK Law is prohibited."

The item sold was a camera rubber terminal cap, something I have sold many times and successfully sent to the USA without a similar experience.

Has something changed exporting to America that we don't know about?

Or could it simply be a random message they have used for return after I refunded the buyer?

Is there a HS Tariff number/commodity code shown anywhere on the export documentation?

I have a feeling someone at PB may have misinterpreted what the item is and entered an incorrect commodity code. I don't think it's anything to do with the USA's customs - it sounds like UK customs prevented the item from being exported because they believed it was something that couldn't legally be exported.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Panic over, I've just seen under the label was another one which states "cancelled order".

It's actually a good thing as I wondered what would happen in these situations, but it's a great return process at no cost to the sender.

Great news!

I've just noticed the line that states "These commodities, technology or software were exported from the United Kingdom in accordance with the Export Control Organization (ECO). Diversion contrary to HMRC and UK Law is prohibited" has a full stop after "(ECO)". I think that was just a notice to the receiving customs not to divert the parcel to another country rather than being some kind of rejection notice.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Ah, didn't notice the full stop, that makes sense now.
