GPSR Compliance

This is as clear as mud to me. Been to the gov. advice website and various others.
How does a 1972 poster fit in to this process?

It's not an exempt category.

Advise buyers this item is for viewing only ?

My initial reaction, sadly, to to switch EU and NI off.

Theoretically one would have to have their completed product tested to EU standards. Which may be expensive. I am not sure if all the materials you are provided with  and all of their data sheets from the manufacturers would be sufficient?

@qualitycardsandgifts

Go into Business Policies, edit a postage policy, scroll to the very bottom, you should see this option to 'Exclude locations' check box, click 'edit exclusion list' and your options appear.

(maybe a quicker way to bulk edit, but I edited each policy individually.)

I am rather suprised that eBay mods haven't joined in this post to clarify and reassure everyone?...

1- the biggest question is if we block NI and EU are our listings safe from GPSR compliance?

everything states we should be but when listings get hit for GPSR it makes no sense.

The poor people of NI just don't know what's round the corner for them.  If I turn off NI because of this it will  impact my business (just what I need on top of Brexit) but the NIrish people will be furious when they discover that they can't buy what they used to buy from eBay.  So much for being part of the United Kingdom and unaffected by Brexit. What was it Boris said - no borders between GB and NI and no barriers to trade between them?

Can eBay afford to lose the majority of sales to Northern Ireland? I wonder what the percentage of eBay UK's sales are to NI and what proportion of those will be affected by this. It's too much hassle for the majority of small businesses, and probably some bigger SMEs.

Yes, doing it via business policies is quick and easy but then applies to every single listing.

So I've left NI on at the moment as we still sell a few spares over there.
I'm holding on until December then will tick that box once and for all!

Once compliance becomes law though it would be beneficial to have a GB only option in the template to split exempt/non-exempt listings. I suppose it can be done through postage policies though, just need to select the right one.

Well if you want to have different ways of posting for different items, then you just need to have more than one postage policy.

Then simply assign that second policy to the relevant items.

There really isn't another way of doing it to be honest.

I have a separate postage policy so that as and when I get the documents I can switch those listings back to NI

Yes, that's what I figured.

I did! And left them unchecked in the exclusion drop down. Good point for others to note.

I have a question.

I would have no hesitation in blocking the EU, as I already have several EU countries blocked due to items being refused by customs despite the correct paperwork (that's a whole other topic!)

But, as I understand it, it would be against UK consumer law to refuse to ship to a certain part of the UK for such an arbitary reasons as this new regulation.

I understand that you can vary shipping costs on heavy items but all my stuff goes RM small parcel/large letter so the costs are universal within the UK.

Somebody tell me I am mistaken!

I left mine excluded checked as it appeared under Europe so to hopefully avoid listing take down. Then left them unticked at the top under UK.

who knows now if they are in or out 😂

Royal Mail operates under a regulatory framework that imposes certain obligations and restrictions on Royal Mail as the Universal Service Provider. This includes providing the Universal Service, including delivering and collecting mail six days a week.

As far as I was aware other businesses are not under this and not obliged to follow?

No, it wouldn't be against the law. A business can refuse to deliver to any part of the UK - even an individual address - for (almost) any reason.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Northern Ireland is probably about 5% of my business and Europe via GSP is probably 2-3%. So that's roughly 8% of my business lost overnight and it's never coming back.

I think this will finish a lot of small businesses and with it coming just before Christmas it has every opportunity to be one of the biggest shambles in Ebay UK's history if they just hide all our listings.

Ebay better grasp this opportunity and tell us what is actually required here:

Simply blocking Europe and Northern Ireland?

Or is there some workaround like previously mentioned for items manufactured before December 2024?

We as business sellers need some proper guidance.

Completely agree. I've just updated my postage policies to exclude EU and NI. Not happy about it but otherwise it's way to difficult to comply :0(

We are all going to lose business. The biggest issue is that no one at eBay will tell us that excluding NI/EU initially solves the problem.

We are all reading the guidance and assuming it will.

Hello.

Blimey, this is a bit much, eh.

However....I sell second hand vinyl/CD's etc. And, if I understand this correctly, as they were all manufactured before the december deadline, I'm all fine and dandy, yeah? AND, if I DO have something after this date that was manufactured after the compliance date, it will have a EAN barcode number which, when inputted, will have all the relevant info.

I mean.....thanks to that liar Boris Johnson, my sales to NI/EU are down 80 odd percent anyways However, I would like to preserve what little sales I get......

Oh, and everyone on this thread has been VERY helpful. Thanks peeps! 🙂

Yes, that's the way I read it.

For example, an art deco silver plated teapot has definately been on sale prior to December 2024, in fact likely in the 1920s and 1930s. So I also see what I sell to be fine. (Hopefully)

Looks like I will have to switch N.I and EU off like most small businesses in December. My thoughts turn to how GSP will work? Will eBay create another option for GSP where, like us, they will remove any countries within the EU and allow us to use GSP for shipping to countries like Australia, China, the U.S for example...
